Hello readers! My stay in Poland is slowly coming to an end. I have some drafted articles, but I donโt want to bombard you all with crypto crypto all the time. My head is already spinning from it all and even my stomach started acting up. Maybe I caught a bug or something. Ideally Iโd just go to sleep now, but I donโt wanna break my daily streak of posting.
Letโs explore some easy and fun topic today. Iโve lived in England for 16 years and at the beginning it was really difficult for me to find my way around. All the houses looked the same for me and I was getting a bit lost. With time I started to notice subtle differences and I was marking some reference points to find my way around the city I live in. I also grew to appreciate traditional English houses.
Whenever I come back to Poland however, my eyes get a visual feast! There are many neighbourhoods where there are many of the same blocks of flats. My parents love in one of those. In the recent years they started painting them all in different colours, so itโs easier to recognise one from another.
And my parents block? Well, this one was somehow skipped and it still looks the same it looked when I was still living here when I was a child. Old black building with pieces of dark stones shining on the walls when you look at it up close. Sides are now grey, as I think they added some insulation to it in preparation for renovations than never happened.
Even some neighbours are still the same, standing outside the building and cracking bad jokes. The other difference is that the road leading to it and also all the pavements have been reworked and more parking spots added, because there is so many more cars here these days.
Close to my parents neighbourhood there are two roads with little houses built on both sides of the road. We used to call them Finnish Houses. They all looked the same. When I walk by this neighbourhood these days they all look different. Some retained the original shape as I remember them, while others have changed drastically.
There are many different colours. Some were extended, some gardens beautifully landscaped.
Some no longer look like Finish Houses I remember from my childhood. Or maybe there were other types too?
Some opened business in front of their houses like this one with some Polish fast food.
Nearby the forest where I walk with my dad every day there are many lovely houses too. I love the fences and their simple, yet beautiful gardens. Not how I would want my garden to look - not enough flowers for my taste. Yellow ones seems to be trending for some reason.
There are old school grays too, but in general there is just so much variety of the houses, all different shapes, sizes and colours. Itโs really not so easy to get lost around here.
Which one of those houses I want? My choice might surprise you after seeing all the other houses. It is old and neglected, but somehow I still like it.
It is probably the only house in the Finnish Houses neighbourhood that hasnโt been renovated since I was a child. Some windows are cracked and to be honest I donโt remember anyone living here even when I was a child.
I also remember there was a tree with a tiny yellow plums growing in the yard and when I was a child, my friend and I climber over the fence to get some of those delicious fruits. One time I climbed on that tree, my foot slipped and I fell on the ground ๐ I guess karma got me that time!
I talked to my dad about this house and said I wanted it. He said he wants it too and once he even asked if he could buy it, but it turned out that was is inherited by many children of the previous owner and they can not come to an agreement about what to do with it. In the meantime it just falls apart more and more and I guess children these days still climb over that fence to get delicious fruit from this yard.
Ehh, anyways. I went on another memory trip while Iโm here, in Poland. Hope you all liked the pretty and colourful houses here. It is time for me to go to sleep now. Another busy day tomorrow!
Until next time ๐
I love these old simple houses. And these Finnish houses are absolutely beautiful.
I love your choice too. I hope the siblings could come into an agreement to sell the house to you very soon.
