Children are known to be receptive to information and are very curious to know new things that is why it is important to impart sexual education to them as early as possible. People must go away with the conventional notion that sexual education is for individuals under the legal age. Imparting sexual education to children enables them to avoid misunderstandings and misconceptions about sex and gender issues that s/he might get or encounter from different sources like social media, the Internet and from his/her peers. It will also help them prepare themselves to be ready for life changes such as going into adolescent or puberty.
Through sex education, children can avoid experiences that come from poorly considered decisions such as unwanted or unplanned pregnancy. Most of the unwanted pregnancy often ends up to abortion which can be dangerous at an early age, and might complicate their birthing capacity when they reach maturity age. Or if young women tend to pursue their pregnancy, there are instances wherein they end up as single mothers. As per observation on third world countries, children who become mothers tend to transfer the burden of rearing a child to their parents. Moreover, they can also protect themselves from acquiring sexually transmitted infections like human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), gonorrhea, syphilis, and trichomoniasis. Similar with the COVID-19 pandemic, HIV is also a global issue that keeps on growing at an unprecedented rate. With this, there is a predicted possibility of decline in these health cases with the help of imparting sexual education to children.
As anchored on the preceding paragraphs, there is strong support that abstinence with proper sex education is the best way to reduce the increasing number of premarital sex and sexually transmitted infections for children are equipped with information, beliefs and values about their identity and attitudes on relationship and intimacy. This could then cause a positive ripple effect to the global community.
