Aldina Tower - Conquest
Hello everyone This is a blast from the past. This is a hike I did in 2017 to an old Fire watch tower in the Thunder Bay, Ontario area.
Name of the tower is Aldina Tower. Hike up Carson Creek Peak to the Aldina Fire Tower.
The Aldina Fire Tower is about 100 feet tall and was put up in the 60’s. Just the cupola is left up top. Aldina Fire Tower.
It was built in the '60's. This is one of two fire towers that I know of still standing near Thunder Bay. This tower is 99 feet tall. The structure is steel which is still in excellent condition. The structure, or cupola, at the top is mainly made of wood, which is fairly weather beaten. The floor is not to be trusted, be careful if you go up the tower.
Carson Creek Peak is listed as the fourth highest summit in Ontario with a broad and flat summit covered by dense bush, with the spot directly under the tower being the high point of land on the summit.
We did get a bit lost on the way out so make sure you follow the directions carefully –on the way in and on the way out! There are lots of unmarked roads and trails heading in all directions in this area. Make sure you have a map and compass.
