Hello everyone! I took these photos in the Moscow Zoo in September 2020. For large birds of prey, a large Skala enclosure has been set up at the Moscow Zoo. I just stopped to take a closer look at the inhabitants of the Rock, when this black vulture (Aegypius monachus) flew to the side right in front of me. He hesitated a little, and suddenly! He sat on his ass, stretched out his legs and rested for a long time in this position. * Всем привет! Эти фотографии я сделала в Московском зоопарке в сентябре 2020 года. Для больших хищных птиц в Московском зоопарке обрудован большой вольер Скала. Я как раз остановилась, чтобы рассмотреть подробнее жителей Скалы, когда на бортик прямо передо мной слетел этот черный гриф. Он немножко потоптался, начал как-то заваливаться и в итоге - плюх! Уселся на задницу, лапти свои вытянул и так довольно долго отдыхал.

Thanks for the amendment! Aegypius monachus - so called in Latin. In Russian "Чёрный гриф" - black vulture. I have not verified that it may be a different name is accepted in English. According to Wikipedia - Cinereous vulture - It is also known as the black vulture, monk vulture and Eurasian black vulture. Its area is Eurasia.

I have always been amazed that I have seen birds with the same name but look so different like the Robin one I seen is a small bird and the other is a bigger bird. That's why birds are so fascinating.

The bird is large, but not dangerous for the living beings. ;) They are scavengers. In any case, this bird is in a fenced-in area at the zoo. We were harmless to each other.
