Paper from Poop In Sri Lanka, there's a guy who noticed that ***elephants*** have **unique poop.** So he took their poop with his own hands and built a **business** out of it. Most of the paper we used today is made from trees. Specifically, it is made from fiber found inside of the tree. This is why **15 billion** trees are cut down every year and as much as 40% is used just for paper. And we all know **deforestation** is one of the biggest problems facing planet Earth. The planet needs trees to survive. *Thusitha* chose the poop of elephants because elephants only eat vegetables and vegetables are full of fiber. So, for every fiber that comes in, it has to come out and an elephant poop has to be full of fiber. And the more they eat, the more they poop. One adult elephant can poop 16 times a day. That's why only 12 elephants are needed to produce **1 tonne of poop in just 1 day.** *Thusitha* knew that there is an **opportunity** so he collected **poop** from elephant orphanages, **dried it under the sun, boiled it up to 200 degrees, mixed it in a huge pot, spread the mixture in a mould, smoothed it, cut it, combined it and he made a perfectly clean safe paper book that does not smell like poop.** The amount of poop that elephants produced can turn into more than **50,000,000 sheets of A4 paper** in just **1 year.** It's such a brilliant idea that *Thusitha* made a company out of it. From having a **7 people** at the start, now he has **80 people** working full time. Almost all of them are **women** who otherwise would find no job opportunities. Toughest Animal on Earth There is one animal that lives among us. An animal that **can survive super cold temperature, boiling temperature, a nuclear bomb, it can even survive in outer space.** An animal that quite possibly lives in your backyard but you don't know about it. **Tardigrades** also known as moss piglets or water bears are strange looking animals. They have long plump bodies, scrunched up heads and 8 limbs with claws. There are over 1,000 known species of tardigrades and they are found almost everywhere on our planet. But what makes them really special is that they are like the superheroes of the animal world because they are near ***immortal.*** As a species, they survived 5 mass extinctions over the course of around half of a billion years. **Tardigrades** can take heat very well. They have been exposed to temperatures as high as **150 degrees celsius**, far above the boiling point of the water and still survived. They don't easily freeze to death too. Over various experiments, they have been stored at **-200 degrees celsius** for 20 months and still survived. Scientists also put them through high level of **x-rays, gamma rays and other types of radiations** and found that some tardigrades can withstand up to **6,000 grays.** It only take *10 grays to kill human.* Not only **tardigrades** are almost immortal, they can also be **revived** after they die. The reason why **tardigrades** can survive 5 mass extinctions and continue living in backyard because it can **mimic death**. And has the power of getting revived after years or even decades. Their superpower is called *****CRYPTOBIOSIS***** and they can activate it at will once it dies from extreme heat, all they need is some water like rain and they are good to go. What makes you Attracted to certain people? Media has complicated many lives. Because of media, many people lose their confidence if they don't fall into the current beauty standard. Perfect Weight Perfect Skin Perfect Hips Perfect Body All these standards make seeing yourself as attractive quite challenging. Attraction goes way beyond the beauty standards. Looks are not the only way we are attracted to each other. According to scientists, the moment you feel attracted to somebody other than their looks, you subconsciously check out their genes, hormones, energy-type, personality, cultural and religious backgrounds and many more! After you meet the person, your nose picks up on natural chemical signals known as **'pheromones'.** Men and women judge each other differently based on smell. Men get the testosterone boost when they smell and ovulating women while women like the smell of men whose MHC Molecules differed from theirs. This is because they want to choose a partner who can provide them with a stronger baby and different MHC molecules mean a stronger immune system. Expectations Spetember 15,2020 (Tuesday) nakuha ng pinsan ko ang grades nya. 92 ang general average at with honors. Nalaman yun ng Lola ko at biglang nagsabi na *"Isabel, dapat 93 ang average mo kase 92 si Ishna."* Kumunot yung noo ko, dahil maski di ako ang sinabihan eh napressure ako. Tiningnan ko yung kapatid ko, di sya umimik. Kahapon, September 17,2020 , nakuha ng kapatid ko yung grades nya. 93 and general average at with honors. Maya maya pa'y *"Isabel isa na lang 94 na edi sana with high honors ka"* Sumama talaga yung mukha ko. Bilang isang kabataan, ramdam ko yung pressure pag sinasabihan ng ganon. Lalo na pag kinukumpara ka. Dahil pinupush mo yung sarili mo para lang maibigay yung hinihingi nila. Lola ko ang nagbabantay samin dahil parehas nasa ibang bansa ang magulang ko. Alam naming kahit ano pa ang mga naabot namin, proud pa rin sina Mama at Papa. Pero hindi ko gusto yung pressure para sa kapatid ko. May mga nababalitaan ako sa social media na mga kabataang nagpapakamatay dahil di nila nabigay yung ineexpect ng magulang o pamilya nila. At ayoko mangyari yun sa kapatid ko man o sa ibang tao. Matuto tayong makuntento. Ginawa ko to para magsilbing awareness sa mga magulang na wag ipressure yung mga anak nila. Dahil hindi biro ang maging estudyante. Lalo na ngayon na self-study ang mangyayare dahil sa pandemic. Mahirap ng makuha ang 90 pataas na grade lalo na ang average. Dahil may mga activities at tasks na kelangan ipasa, minsan nagsasabay sabay pa. Naaalala ko nung nagaaral pa ko, sa sobrang dami ng certificates at medals na naiuwi ko, di man lang ako nakarinig ng salitang "Congratulations" mula sa Lola ko. Nung gumraduate ako ng Senior High School ay "First Honorable Mention" ako at may iba pang best at certificates, pero ang tanging narinig ko "Bakit di ka naging Valedictorian" mas iniyakan ko yung pangyayaring yun dahil hindi biro ang hirap na dinanas ko. Nagsabay sabay ang problema sa pamilya ko at thesis ko. Tas ganun yung narinig ko. Pero pinaniwala ko yung sarili ko na tama na yung natanggap ko. Sapat na sa effort na binigay ko. Ayokong makaramdam ang mga kabataan ng pressure sa pagaaral, gawin nila ang best nila. Iprovide ang mga kelangang ipasa. Gawin ang responsibilidad bilang magaaral. Para sa mga magulang, wag po tayo magbitaw ng mga salita basta-basta dahil di natin alam ang nagiging epekto nito sa mga anak nyo. Nawa'y gabayan at suportahan nyo sila sa lahat ng bagay.
