I'm a person with deep curiosity, I've joined a lot of groups and read some online archives about certain things which I found something mysterious or unusual.

Due to my curiosity, I have watched some unusual videos, which are disturbing and frightening. Yes I did, but it was unintentional, however, I clearly remembered a video that terrorized not only my mind, but also my heart, and my soul.

That video was circulated on social media platforms before. I don't remember the exact year, I don't know how or where it started, it just spreads like a virus.

It was a video of a girl that is hanged upside-down and being beaten by a naked lady. Well, this one is really disturbing. I won't try to elaborate on the whole content of what I saw.

This is not my main topic in this article today, but it is somehow a part of it or related to it.

An Australian man named Peter Gerard Scully was imprisoned for life in the Philippines after being convicted of one count of human trafficking and five counts of rape by sexual assault of underage girls.

He is pending trial for other crimes against children, including the production and dissemination of child pornography, torture, and the alleged murder of an 11-year-old girl

It was stated in the reports, that he was the man behind the said video as aforesaid above. He is an alleged Pedophile.

What is a Pedophile?

Pedophiles (as defined by the fifth Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders) are individuals who are preferentially or solely sexually attracted to prepubescent children, generally 13 years or less.

Pedophilia is an ongoing sexual attraction to pre-pubertal children. It is considered a paraphilia, a condition in which a person's sexual arousal and gratification depend on fantasizing about and engaging in sexual behavior that is atypical and extreme.

Most people imagine pedophiles as wicked old men outfitted in trench coats, hiding in the bushes, waiting to grab young children off the street. However, you can never really tell if a person is a pedophile, they look and act just like normal people, just like you and me. But one thing is for sure, they’re sexually attracted to children.

Pedophiles may be attracted to young boys, young girls, or both.

Conceptions about pedophiles have been deviating rapidly, and pedophilia has recently become a subject of heightened awareness and concern.

Pedophiles: What you need to know

Not all pedophiles are child offenders, and contrariwise not all child sex offenders are pedophiles.

Some persons abused children not because they're attracted to children but because of an opportunity and a chance to do so.

Some pedophiles are attracted only to children, often of a specific age range or developmental stage. Others are attracted to both children and adults.

Classifying Pedophiles

Exclusive pedophiles are attracted only to children. They show no interest in sexual partners who are not prepubescent children.

Non-exclusive pedophiles are attracted to both adults and children. A huge percentage of male pedophiles are homosexual or bisexual in orientation to children. Which means they are attracted to male children or both male and female children.

Many people conclude that only males are pedophiles. Nonetheless, case studies on pedophilia have verified that female pedophilia does exist. Although this is an unusual phenomenon, females who exhibit pedophilia tend to suffer from psychiatric disorders or substance abuse troubles and problems. Also, there is an increased correlation between sexual abuse as a child with females compared to males.

What Causes Pedophilia?

Pedophilia can be associated with both biological and environmental factors and aspects.

More precisely, the person attracted to children who sexually molest children has both impaired, degraded motivation, and impaired inhibition. Possible motivational factors include social anxiety and the "abused-abuser theory." Possible inhibitory factors include impulsivity, cognitive distortions, and psychopathy.

Some information gathered about the man behind the disturbing video as I've said above, Scully according to his own statement, that he was sexually abused by a priest in Victoria when he grew up.

This information about Scully was just an example of the "abused-abuser theory", which offers another model of pedophilic motivation. This suggests that a pedophile’s own history of childhood sexual abuse predisposes him to pedophilic impulses and tendencies.

These factors may come into play in any one person, but individual pedophiles may vary widely in their psychological profile.

Nevertheless, most studies suggest that a substantial proportion of pedophiles were not abused as children.

When is the time for a person to be diagnosed with Pedophilia?

Doctors diagnose pedophilia when...

• A person had repeated, intense severe sexually arousing fantasies, urges, or behaviors involving a child or children (usually aged 13 years or under).

• If a person feels greatly distressed or become less able to act well (at work, in their family, or in interactions with friends), or they have acted on their urges.

• If a person is aged 16 years old or older and is 5 or more years older than the child who is the object of the delusions or behaviors. (An older adolescent who has an ongoing relationship with a 12- or 13-year-old is exempted.)

• Lastly, if a person had the condition for 6 months or more.

Moreover, a diagnosis of pedophilic disorder should determine whether the individual is exclusively attracted to children or not, the gender that the individual is attracted to, and whether the sexual desires are limited to incest.

Treatment

Pedophilia, like many classifications of disorders or diseases, does not have a complete cure. However, it can be treated with long-term individual or group psychotherapy and drugs that alter the sex drive and reduce testosterone levels. Simply putting pedophiles in prison or another establishment, even for a long time, does not alter pedophilic desires or fantasies.

The outcome is best when participation is voluntary and the person receives training in social skills and treatment of other problems, such as drug abuse or depression.

Most people are in denial that pedophilia exists in their community or home. These denials may lead to a pedophile to go to great lengths in proceeding with their obsessional and compulsive behavior. They may continue to roam around near the children's park, volunteer as a team leader of the youth organizations, and find other strategies to connect with possible and potential victims.

Nowadays, children are using mostly the internet, which has become a common hunting ground for pedophiles to search for potential youngster victims. Pedophiles can then befriend children and manipulate, bait, and lure their victims into a treacherous sense of trust.

Conclusions

Pedophilia is a complex disorder with many underlying aspects and factors. Despite there's no cure for pedophilia, steps can be seized to help people with this disorder to control and prevent their desires and behavior. The society needs to be more aware and knowledgeable of this disorder and its preponderance in everyday life.
