A Day in the Fire Station `March 10, 2022, Thursday,` this date has been memorable for the Daycare Center where my son is currently enrolled. Last week, his teacher messaged the group chat and sent me a private message regarding the invitation of the Bureau of Fire Protection here in our locality. *The fire station in our hometown invited the children and the parents to take a part in the fire safety awareness regarding that March is recognized as the ‘Fire Prevention Month’.* Early last Thursday, my eldest excitedly greeted me with his warm smile as I remind him of their activity for that day. His little brother wanted to join the mini field trip but we can’t, the students were already batched and were only exclusive for the enrolled pupils in the Daycare center. *However, on that day, I was worried at first that we can’t go since it rained early that morning. I was waiting for the teacher’s confirmation regarding the mini-tour and as I read her message that it won’t be postponed and we'll just let our kids wear their jackets; we immediately prepare ourselves and have a nice meal before leaving the house.* 9 am was the said assembly time in the center and we will go to the station altogether. Surprisingly, the teacher expected only 15 students as she gave grouped and announced the names of each student in which batch they should be, but as everyone arrived at the assembly area, there were 19 students. She informed first the Fire Station department through a call and as soon as they gave their signal to go, we quickly rode a tricycle to reach our destination. ***I am the one who’s more excited since I’ve never been to a fire station, lol, and of course, this blog is possible because of it. 😁***

As soon as we saw the firetruck, the kids excitedly jumped off their transportation services. The officers welcomed us with their warm greetings, they make sure that everyone was wearing their masks and disinfected first before entering the vicinity.

*Presently, the Fire Station building is still under construction just right beside the covered gym where the event was held.* As we seat in our respective seats, two officers handed us mini-comic books and leaflets with the station’s attached contact number just in case we will face emergencies in the future regarding the fire.

Then, the chief officer started his mini-seminar for the kids. They prepared projectors for the kids to enjoy listening to their speeches. ***Of course, I was paying attention too, haha. Here’s our (parents) stolen shot from the teacher.***

You can see that amazona girl in white, that’s me, lol. I was paying attention to the officer because I am excited to write. :D

And what makes me delighted that day, as the officer threw questions regarding the images shown in the projector, my boy, Near, without hesitation raised his hands to answer. *The officer recognized his activeness and have his classmates clapped for him. (While I was clapping, I’m just a proud mama sitting beside watching, hehe)* The seminar actually, is not only for the kids but for us too, the guardians and the parents. As the chief officer shared his disastrous experience, where there were lives of children were taken away because of the negligence of their parents too, he said every day should be ***‘fire prevention day.*** **Fire is useful to us humans, we need it for cooking, we need it in our daily living, it's a necessity too, however, due to negligence and improper handling, sometimes fire can cause disastrous turmoils we couldn’t imagine, and worse it could take away lives of someone.** I’m just glad, that our fire department here in the town make this move to share awareness with the young minds since they can be the most innocent victims if a disastrous fire might have occurred. After the informative discussion, they show us on what were the things needed by a fireman in case there’s a fire emergency. From their suit gear to their weapon against the fire (hose). ***Ps: a fireman’s suit is called ‘Bunker gear’*** And of course, kids shouldn’t have missed the opportunity to take a picture with this fireman in the complete gear.

`This guy is a volunteer in the fire station, he is always ready to help whenever the station needs his help. And on that day, he was there to demo how to wear a fireman’s gear.` Aren’t fire fighters’ heroes? Indeed, firefighters are heroes, they are not only warriors of fire, but they can do many great things without a superpower. Though they are not wearing capes, holding swords, or guns, they can help in any emergencies and rescue operations too just using their strong body and a cautious mind; may it be floods caused by a typhoon or even in an accident, they are just one call away. ***They can be our friendly mates in the neighborhood and lifesavers we should be thankful for.*** And the exciting part for the kids was, they were offered a free ride in the firetruck! They were batched again, 6 students per ride, and on the first batch, we giggled as we heard cries of some children as the siren of the fire truck started to make noise. They were startled by the loud siren. Near was in the second batch and his friend, the chief officer who do the seminar, fetch him and they gave each other high-fives, and let him ride on the front seat. They became friends quickly as if they have known each other for so long, lol.

After the free ride, they went back to the covered gym, the kids and the parents were given free snacks. ***I didn’t eat my snack, I brought it instead for my boy, Damien. I know he badly wants to be with us too.*** It was a truly fun yet informative day, the mini-tour that we had attended is so worth it.

And I strongly agree with the chief marshal, fire prevention shouldn’t be remembered only during March, let the fire prevention and fire safety awareness be in our minds every day if possible. ▶ Avoid octopus connection, never let your kids play with matches, plugs, and lighters. Educate them that fire could be hazardous, especially to them. *Just a simple misstep of putting lighted candles near the curtains or any light materials could cause unwanted fire can take away your properties and worse, your loved ones.* Let’s all be responsible, a fire can be a friend but can be our worse enemy and nightmare if handled improperly.
