Having your garden at home can be beneficial in so many ways. Aside from planting flowering plants and shrubs, try to plant some medicinal plants too.

Before, I've shared here one of our medicinal plants at home, the Mayana plant. This plant is easy to grow, aside from Mayana you have many choices to choose from, and one's best to select is the Oregano.

Oregano is an herb, a wonderful herb with a lot of health benefits. It is closely related to mint, thyme, marjoram, basil, sage, and lavender.

I know you are familiar with this amazing herb. It is one of the most well-known used herbs globally.

Because of its health benefits, we have lots of planted oregano in our yard. Mostly, we use oregano for coughs as herbal medicine.

How to grow an Oregano plant

Growing oregano is very easy. You can grow oregano from seeds, through cuttings, or bought it as container plants.

We planted our oregano through cuttings. Oregano can grow indoors or in your garden. The oregano plant is perfect for growing in areas prone to drought. A few weeks ago we trimmed our planted oregano and throw the cut stems on the ground, then weeks passed it grows.

Planted oregano does not require much attention. These are drought-tolerant herbs that need watering only during extremely dry periods. Oregano doesn’t need to be fertilized either, as these plants can naturally take care of themselves. These plants can double in volumes, as you can see in the image below.

Did you know?

Oregano helps in repelling insect pests that commonly affect some vegetables such as beans and broccoli.

I remembered I used some Oregano leaves as a mosquito repellent when our hometown became the top municipality with the highest dengue cases. What I did was, I hanged the Oregano stems with leaves in front and at the back of our stand fan. What I noticed was the mosquitoes at home lessen. Fortunately, despite the dengue outbreak in our place, our family didn't become one of the victims.
