Good morning everyone. I am going to write another recipe article here. This recipe is popular here in the Philippines specifically in the Bicol Region.

I am from Camarines Sur which is a fourth district of Bicol and it is my first time to cook this because I am not used in cooking vegetables with coconut milk.

Anyway, I think it turned out great because it tasted delicious. And it looked delicious too. 😅

So I bring you, Laing!!!

These are the ingredients:

  • 1/4 kilo of minced pork

  • 1 piece onion (sliced or minced)

  • 6 cloves of garlic (minced)

  • 2 to 3 small pieces of ginger medium cut

  • 2 to 3 pieces of Chili pepper you can add more if you want an extra spicy flavor

  • 4 cups of dried taro leaves

  • 1 coconut milk powder (follow the instruction based on the product)

  • 1 can coconut cream (It is better to use fresh coconut but since I didn't find anything, I just used the coconut milk powder and coconut cream

  • 1 and 1/2 cup clean water

  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instruction based on how I cooked it...

  1. In a medium heat pan, put a little water and the pork. Let it boil until the natural oil from the pork comes out.

  2. Saute the onion, garlic and ginger.

  3. Add the water and the dissolved coconut milk powder, and salt and pepper.

  4. Add taro leaves and let it boil.

  5. Once the coconut milk mixture has boiled, stir it lightly. Wait for the taro leaves to be cooked and the water reduced.

  6. Once the coconut milk is reduced, add the coconut cream and stir lightly.

  7. Add the chili pepper and simmer for 5 to 10 minutes or until the coconut cream has reduced.

  8. Serve it with hot steamed rice and kalamansi!!! Enjoy!!!
