It is hard to look good in Nigerian now a days without getting harassed.

Hey everyone so this is my second article here, I'm certain a lot of people here arent from Nigeria or Africa so you probably won't be able to relate to what I'm saying, but those of us in Nigeria here(guys that is) would be able to relate. Anyway I hope everyone who takes a read enjoys it. So lets take a dive in, those of us who are on the young side(early 20s mostly) who work not talking about the whole yahoo fraud thing, not that I completely blame those who do it "I do not" some of them don't have a choice its the only way they are able to help themselves and their families and that isn't bad, but it doesn't still justify it cause morally its very wrong, anyway that isn't what I'm here to talk(write) about •I'LL BE REFERRING TO MYSELF IN THIS ARTICLE. Now I wake up in the morning during week days take my bath, get dressed then head out the house for work(oh right I brush my teeth too, obviously lol wouldn't want to forget that) I get to work successfully. Spend the hours I'm supposed to, do whatever it is I need to, and then head home tired and all and these thugs just appear from nowhere and demand for cash, some shouting they know I have money that I look and dress the part. Makes me wonder is it a crime to look and dress well cause this is getting out of hand. That isn't even the only one, when I go out deep into lagos sometimes on the island the authorities would stop guys like me and ask to see their phones, believing that they are into fraud just cause they look and dress well and they demand money after the find something incriminating, this is one of the things that led to the protest that happened way back at 2020 where alot of young people lost their lives, a very sad year for the youths of Nigeria. I'll share an ordeal that I experienced from these authorities during that same year but this was before the protest, even before the lockdown which was a result of pandemic which the whole world suffered from. This happened on a sunday morning I was heading to church with my younger sister and getting to the bus stop I was stopped and asked to enter a truck all just cause I was dressed well, in the truck there was another guy who was crying, he had been beaten up he claimed he didn't own the phone which some content that showed he was into fraud, I didn't see the content only overheard their discussion. My sister was outside crying (which was hilarious at the time seeing as she isn't a child she was in her late teen years then), they questioned me I was lucky cause I didn't have a phone on me so there was nothing to search. They tried to intimidate me to talk, say something that would incriminate me, but there was nothing to say cause I was innocent after about an hour of being held I the truck, their bus came and asked them to release me seeing as they had nothing on me. I was tired and frustrated so I just went home with my sister who was waiting for me all the while I was in custody. The authorities harassing young guys has reduced now though, but the thugs aspect of it is rising fast. A friend told me they collected three of his phones on different occasions and about 20thousand naira from him too, he claims to have phobia for them now... That was hilarious to me. But this is a problem that is rising fast among many other problems we face in this country, nothing makes sense anymore. I can tell y'all for a fact that if I get the chance to leave I'd never come back, Yes it is that messed up lol. People should be able to look good and move freely without any form if harassment whatsoever, we shoukd be able to feel safe with out here with one another we are of one people after all.
