Loosing crypto assets is web3 and DeFi wallets has become a norm these days as investors are always being victimized. At first scammers targeted their victims through Ponzi Schemes and ICOs. There was an Era when there was an outcry when people lost money through onecoin.eu , swisscoin.eu and so many other multi-level marketing.
Those scams still exist but its now to a lower extent as we now have rug pulls where scammers launch a token and list it on exchanges e.g pancake-swap and they present their whitepaper promising heaven on earth and investors buy that token. Then the price is pumped and investors buy more and when they try to take their profit they will find that the token is not saleable then its game over for them.
There is a new trick being used and investors are falling victims to this kind of scammers. I will upload a screenshot of a chat i had with another scammer on telegram and i will explain how he intended to scam me.
So what happened is i bought a token called Pyroworld and i joined their telegram group. So i posted in the group that i am failing to stake my tokens and the admin responded nicely and finally my stake was processed. Then this scammer came into my inbox pretending to be a good Samaritan an he asked if i had received my rewards and that very moment i knew it was a scammer and i just played dump and pretended as if i was new to this.
So he sent me a link and then he told me to connect my wallet and put my seed phrase and claim my rewards and from that moment i insulted him and he blocked me instantly.
What was the trick?
The trick was if you click that link it will ask you to put your secret word and sync your wallet details. Remember those 12 or 24 words are the keys to your wallet so once u put them on that site he will gain access to your wallet and they wipe your account.
The only way to survive the jaws of these scammers is to always avoid revealing your private keys and secret words to anyone or entering them on any site. Another issue, if you check your address on the Bscscan you will discover that you have other tokens in your wallet which you never bought so make sure you avoid tempering with those, do not add them to your wallet or sending them because they might pose a risk. Just make sure you touch only whats yours an the rest leave it before you regret
