01/86 Bollywood celebrities who underwent a dramatic transformation

Being a celebrity means you have to look your presentable best almost every time- which isn't easy and requires a lot of efforts for upkeep. Certain movie roles, too require actors to look different and undergo transformations. While changing your look for a film isn't a new concept but what perhaps is the most interesting is how some celebrities did it in a healthy way. Be it weight loss or weight gain, we all have something to learn from them. Here's presenting some of the best transformations we have seen over the years in Bollywood.

02/8Bhumi Pednekar in Dum Laga Ke Haisha

We cannot talk about epic and dramatic transformations without crediting Bhumi Pednekar. For her debut role, Bhumi played an overweight girl and for the same, she had to gain more than 20 kilograms in six months time. From gorging on butter chicken, dal makhani and other fatty foods on a regular basis, Bhumi went all in and won rightful praise for owning her character. What's more fascinating is that post the film, she lost 33 kilos in just under four months by regularly working out and eating homemade food.

03/8Rajkummar Rao in Trapped and Bose

Rajkummar Rao went above and beyond to get into his character's frame for two of his roles- one as a 'trapped' resident and second wherein 'Bose'. While the former movie required him to look frail and famished, Rajkummar followed a diet wherein all he had for a month was a cup of black coffee and two carrots to munch on. Can you imagine eating so less? For the latter, since he had to look plump and healthy, he had to put on 11 kilos- for which, he survived on a diet of fats and carbs. Sweets, oily food became his companion.Rajkumar Rao went above and beyond to get into his character's frame for two of his roles- one as a 'trapped' resident and second wherein 'Bose'. 04/8Aamir Khan in Dangal

Imagine having to put on kilos and then having to burn all of the excess within a timespan of a few months. Aamir Khan, known to be a perfectionist in his trade did the same. For his role in the movie Dangal, where he is seen as a wrestler at different ages, Aamir was given the option of wearing a bodysuit but he wanted the transformation to be fully natural. He first put on 25 kilos and developed a paunch and then, lost it in five months time. In a behind-the-scenes video from the film, Aamir spoke at length recounting the different struggles he went through:

"Putting on the weight was fun as I could eat and drink whatever I wanted. I had a ball, I have to say but it was uncomfortable. My wrestling training was affected because I was carrying so much weight and I couldn't move fast. You know, your breathing changes when you put on weight. Your whole body language changes, the way you walk, the way you sit, the way you try to stand up"

While Aamir's transformation is super impressive, he did caution fans to not try such a risky step. A staunch supporter of making dietary tweaks, Aamir also said that without changing his diet, he wouldn't have been able to go through the physical transformation.

05/8Kriti Sanon for Mimi

Actress Kriti Sanon has a naturally lean and slim body type but for her newest role, where she will be seen playing a surrogate mother, the actress had to put 15 kilograms. Kriti decided to do this all by herself, even if that meant challenging her metabolism and endurance levels. The role and the prep were physically and mentally exhausting for Kriti but like a true player, she did it all by herself in a short period of time. In an interview, Kriti also spoke of the challenges she faced:

"For me, putting on so many kilos is actually a challenge as it's very new for my body. I have to in a way fight my metabolism and increase my calorie intake to gain that much weight in a short time."

06/8Kriti went on to lose 15 kilos during the lockdown

During the challenging transformation, there was a time Kriti had to force herself to eat food, even if she didn't want to.

"Since I have a high metabolism, I knew this was going to be a task for me. I knew I had to increase my appetite and calorie intake, so I completely stopped working out, even yoga! I used to have poori-halwa-chana as breakfast and sweets after every meal. Though I enjoyed initially, later I had to force myself to eat as I had lost interest in food. In fact, when I used to not feel hungry, I used to eat a cheese slice,"

And then, like a champ, she shed around 15 kilos of excess weight by following a proper diet and workout regime during the lockdown. Goals or what?

07/8Farhan Akhtar for Bhag Milkha Bhag

Farhan Akhtar's performance as athlete Milkha Singh is regarded as his career-best. The role also saw him put his best foot forward on the race track, quite literally. Reports mention that Farhan, who is also quite fit in real life went rigorous training under top coaches for a period of 13 months. Famous trainer Samir Jaura helped him make the transformation. As a part of his routine, he did 2500-3000 crunches, leg raises, side bends, push-ups DAILY to get those eight pack abs. Squats, lunges and jump squats, calf raises and many more exercises helped him develop legs like a proper runner. He was also put on a liquid diet for a while. Isn't this super inspiring?

08/8Prabhas for Bahubali

The film which made Telegu actor Prabhas into a nationwide hero, Bahubali required Prabhas to put in a lot of hard work to look the part of a perfect warrior. Since he had to look beefed up and hunky, Prabhas spent extensive hours perfecting his physique-which included eating as many as 40 egg whites with protein powder a day! Yes, you read that right. The actor went from 82 kilos to 102 kilos for the film and trained for close to six months under world-renowned wrestlers. He even shipped gym infrastructure costing close to 1.5 crores to build himself a personal gym!
