TikTok has become a go-to app for many people. On the platform, anyone can post short-form video content that either entertains or informs. Apart from skits and dances, TikTok also has tutorials, recipes, and more. But is the app getting banned?

US President Donald Trump recently told reporters, “As far as TikTok is concerned, we’re banning them from the United States.”

He added that he can do it through an executive order.

report by the New York Times revealed that the US government is concerned that the Chinese government could gain access to information on TikTok’s users. The app is owned by the Chinese company ByteDance. Alex Zhu, the former head of the app, denied this, telling the New York Times in a separate article, “it does not share user data with China, or even with its Beijing-based parent company.”

Over the weekend, current CEO Kevin Mayer said, “We are not political, we do not accept political advertising and have no agenda – our only objective is to remain a vibrant, dynamic platform for everyone to enjoy.”

There are also reports that the app is selling its US operations to stop the ban. Microsoft is one of the potential buyers.

TikTok is currently banned in India due to tensions between the country and China.
