Monday Challenges from D.Buzz
>> Round 112 << | >> Win 10 HIVE<<
Hello friends.
There's something special about a short story. It's like a snapshot of a moment in time; a glimpse into another world. And Zap Fiction is all about the short story.
But what is a short story, and what is a mcrofiction story?
A short story is a piece of fiction that typically can be read in one sitting and focuses on a self-contained incident or series of linked incidents, with the intent of evoking a single effect or mood. A short story is usually between 1,000 and 7,500 words, but some have been known to be as short as 200 words or as long as 20,000. It is a popular form of literature, oftentimes in the form of a ghost story.
A microfiction story, on the other hand, is a very short story, usually under 500 words. They can be fun to write and are a great way to get your creative juices flowing.
If you're looking for a fun and challenging way to flex your mental muscles, writing a short story, or better yet, a microfiction story, is a perfect activity! Not only will you have to come up with an interesting plot and believable characters, but you'll also need to do it all within a tight word count. It's a great way to hone your writing skills and see how much you can really accomplish when you set your mind to it.
With that said, let's get to this Monday's challenge!
Let's get to some microfiction writing!
Today's challenge
Let's write some microfiction!
A microfiction story is a very short story, usually with a character count of fewer than 250 characters (perfect for a buzz). Because of the limited character count, every word in a microfiction story must count. This can be a challenge, but it can also be a lot of fun.
Here are a few tips to help you write a great microfiction story. Start with a bang. You only have a few words to grab your reader's attention, so make sure your first sentence is strong. Keep it simple. Don't try to cram too much into your story. Pick one central idea and stick to it. Be concise.
This week, try your hand at a microfiction story!
Will you join in the fun?
