What's Buzzing Friends...
There is that adage, that you shouldn't hit your head against the wall, for obvious reasons, But if that reason is obvious it's because you will damage your brain, and for most of us that is an important organ to have. There are some critters out in the world who however make it their living to hit their heads against a wall. The most notable one is, of course, the woodpecker.
The woodpecker is part of the Picidae family of species, and really has some peculiar and interesting facts about ways in which they protect their brain from damage. I'm sure you been to a heavy metal concert, you perhaps did some headbanging, then the next day had a severe headache from sloshing around your brain all night. Why do woodpeckers not have that same issue from headbanging every day all day?
It turns out they have a seatbelt of sorts around their brain... The seatbelt comes from the woodpecker's tongue itself wrapping around and giving their thinking machine a nice hug. In fact, scientists are using the model of the woodpecker's brain and skull, to design better helmets for bike safety. Wow!
