What's Buzzing Friends...
"Close but no Cigar". This is a classic idiom that (at least in America) is used often. Loosely the idiom translates to means close but not close enough to win.
A lot of these idioms we use in everyday life, and we kinda don't know their meaning or what they come from. However, that is where the good old power of the internet comes to play!
After some research, the classic mentioned above "Close but no Cigar" originated around the 1920s. This was the golden age of the Carnival and traveling fairs. At a lot of these, there was the midway, a row of wagons with games that you can win prizes at. Back in the 1920s before science told us it was bad, one of these prizes was a cigar.
If you competed in a game but came close but did not win, you would not get the cigar, then the Midway Barker would shout out "close but no cigar". Being that the majority of Americans traveled to local fairs and carnivals at that time the saying caught on and took off, now it is embedded in the culture but people don't know why.
If only they had an update weekly telling them news and stories, hmm they dont, but YOU do, its this week's D.Buzz summary of posts. :D So, we can say "Close and a D.Buzz update!" Wow, what a time to be alive! Let's get to it!
