Welcome, buzzketeers, to another Sunday recap of posts from DBuzz!

We hope you're feeling positively energized today, because our fun fact today is about radiation and its existence in the world around us. Did you know that individuals employed at U.S. nuclear power facilities experience less radiation exposure than the amount emitted by the granite walls within the U.S. Capitol Building? It's wild but true!

Almost everything we encounter emits some degree of radiation, measured in milirems (mrem). For instance, sleeping next to someone for eight hours will impart 2 mrems of radiation into you per year, while smoking a cigarette stick amounts to 8 mrems. It's fascinating to think about how much radiation we're exposed to unknowingly.

But don't worry! The average person receives around 361 mrem/year, which is relatively harmless. To experience a lethal radiation dose, you would need to absorb 400,000 to 450,000 mrem in a short period of time, so you can go about your daily life without fear.
