What's buzzing, friends?
It's truly remarkable how the slow passage of time can shift our perspectives on what is deemed socially acceptable. From the bold strides taken by women to the changing language used to refer to marginalized groups, the way we interact with one another is constantly evolving. It's a testament to the power of progress that what was once viewed as outrageous now seen as a given, and that what was once considered normal is now considered outdated and potentially offensive. The world is ever-changing, and it's with each passing day that we take steps towards a better tomorrow.
Alcohol has been a part of many societies for centuries, and with it has come a long-standing debate over whether or not it is appropriate for kids to consume it. The reality is that opinions on children and alcohol vary greatly, with some cultures and families viewing it as an acceptable part of growing up, while others view it as completely off-limits. Ultimately, it is up to each individual family and community to decide what is best for their children when it comes to alcohol consumption.
In some societies, alcohol is viewed as a necessary part of celebrating special occasions and coming-of-age ceremonies. This can be seen in the Jewish culture, where a Bar or Bat Mitzvah is celebrated with a Kiddush, or if you were in France in the 1950's, at lunch in school.
Yes, France in the 1950s used to allow and encourage school children to drink wine, cider, beer and more at lunch time. Source. That came to an end in August of 1956, but only for kids under the age of 14, where children had to drink with their parents.
When you look at the past and turn your nose up at it, remember that the shifting thoughts of the times change... and what you are doing today may be frowned upon in the future. We guess their may be some truth to that phrase "back in my day".
