D.Buzz Bi-Weekly Development Update Report Vol.31 :

Hello Developers and D.Buzz Users.

They say Rome was not built in a day, the same is true for progressive decentralized applications that are given freely to the community. :D

First and as always, lots of updates and exciting things going on behind the scenes here at D.Buzz and co. . Sort of struggling on where to start telling you about all things going on but, let's get going.

Hive. pm - Delayed for a Couple of Days

  • But Exciting Developments Developed.

We initially scheduled to release the "Built on HIVE" private messaging service Hive.PM today, however, we decided to delay its launch a couple of days to either Friday or Monday. We did this to ensure that it runs smoothly and added in an extra feature. However, it's life and working on the test server!

Stay tuned for teaser videos shortly! Here are some screenshots.

Collaboration, synergy & interoperability is key to ensure that D.Buzz and the Hive community benefits from the network effect of the Hive ecosystem.
Author : @chrisrice

That quote is important as it's part of our core belief. In execution of that belief, D.Buzz has formed a collaboration with a really cool HIVE community leader. When HIVE.pm rolls out, it will be integrated into a lot of front-end systems, providing a much-needed feature for our blockchain.

We're not releasing the name of this person quite yet or the full exciting implementation of HIVE.PM, but we will when the collaboration has been started. It's coming cool things.

Blog.D.Buzz - Long-form content on D.Buzz Delayed for a Couple of Days.

Much like Hive.PM, we have decided to hold back the release of our long-form content enhancement for D.Buzz, entitled Blog.D.Buzz. Much for the same reasons as above, we want to ensure it runs smoothly, and we need to take care of a few small bugs (*namely infinite scrolling is the last feature we are integrating before release). We expect this to be released by Friday or Monday as well.

Mute feature for the front-end of D.Buzz

With today's update, D.Buzz will be able to protect against illegal content that we agree should be illegal

We embrace the freedom of speech 100%, but we also understand that there are some things that are not free speech. We do not want D.Buzz to become a home to things like child pornography, scams, or phishing, as these topics are not freedom speech topics. (* We do hope you agree).

The texts of those Buzz's will remain in the feed (As that is freedom of speech), and then users could choose for themselves if they want to MUTE that author or individual Buzz that offends them. We would also remove any child pornography images from our image hosting solution when flagged (again, freedom of speech, is not freedom to post images of such things - these are two separate topics).

D.Buzz PWA (Progressive Web App) in March

The next exciting feature to be released, scheduled for March is our PWA (Progressive Web App).

What is a PWA?

A progressive web app is a web application that uses the latest web capabilities to provide users with an experience comparable to a native mobile app. While web technologies are used to build a progressive web app, its functionality mimics that of a native app. The objective of a progressive web app is to provide an app-like experience. Source : CodeinWP.com

The D.Buzz PWA will be the equivalent of a Mobile App, complete with Push Notifications and a D.Buzz icon on the Home Screen of your Mobile Phone, but it will not require the use of the Google Play Store or Apple's App Store.

Not only will this prevent D.Buzz from getting deleted from Mobile Phones (as what happened with Parler), but there is talk in communities like F-Droid that Google adds trackers to the apps people download from their Play Store, which may include even privacy-focused apps like Signal and the TOR Browser.

If true this is true, using the Google Play Store for Mobile Apps is a security and privacy risk, and coupled with their policy of banning apps that compete with BigTech and Web 2.0, makes it sense to avoid using their app store altogether. Focused on creating the decentralized web instead.

Summary

In summary, Blog.D.Buzz & Hive. pm are both scheduled for release Friday or Monday and our Mobile App equivalent is scheduled for next month, muting and block of offensive content increased.

WOW, that was a lot. :D
