Why Are We Lazy?

One of the most difficult things in creating is "getting started". It doesn't matter how much intention the head has gathered. So many times I plan things while I am idle or on the go. Not a few ideas also came to mind at that time. In this regard are the ideas that I would like to write down. But once the front of the laptop, those ideas are lost in the sparkling laziness.

The first and second paragraphs are the most difficult times. This is where the fistfighting time is laziness and will. It often happens that you have written a paragraph or two, you are lazy to do a lightning-fast counter-attack like in the El Clásico duel. As a result, the writing was abandoned like a carcass. It seems that this happens not only in the world of writing such as completing articles or theses. This is the law of work.

What psychological dynamics are going on inside of you? Of course I, as a stupid psychology scholar, can not answer it. College alone took six years, of course, I wasn't serious when I did it. But, let me use an evolutionary perspective not taught in class to discuss this strange phenomenon.

First of all, please understand that all living things are the product of evolution. On earth, all living things originated from single-celled organisms some 3.5 billion years ago. Do not believe? Not a problem. Facts remain facts even if hundreds of millions of people do not believe them. Like gravity, like half the earth's population does not believe it, gravity still exists. So is evolution.

Second, psychology is the study of human behaviour. Yes, in terms of etymology (understanding language) psychology should be the study of psychology. But, somehow a word also evolved. It could be that the evolution of the word makes it deeper or more reduced. As anarchist said, what was previously an anti-state ideology has now evolved into violent action.

We all just believe that everything in this world is a product of evolution. Civilization evolved, the word evolved, animals and plants also evolved. Want to say humans also evolved from monkeys? Many humans are disturbed by their comfort. Why bother? Because we (humans) feel like special creatures created by God. It would be a blasphemy to say that humans came from apes!

Again, humans are biological creatures created by evolution over millions of years. Approximately 6-7 million years ago, our ancestors broke away from their "great ape" relatives. Australopithecus is the name of the species that descended from various Homo species, including Homo Sapiens (modern humans). But how is it possible that human behaviour that is born of free will is the product of rigid and deterministic evolution? Doesn't evolution work at the level of genes?

You see, not all actions are controlled by genes (or humans who haven't succeeded in mapping genes), but there is no single behaviour that doesn't involve brain cells. Don't forget that brain cells are made up of genes that are a product of evolution. So, it is very possible that we still carry information about the behaviour of the ancestors of the animals.

For example, eating and drinking. Who teaches a baby to suckle his mother? His brain was not developed enough to learn verbally. Of course no one. It is the information in the genes that teaches it. Just like baby cows, cats, dogs, monkeys and so on. Likewise with sex. No need to learn, we should know how to make children. But now people learn a lot from porn videos. Even a cat who has never watched porn knows how to have sex.

Many behaviours are informed by genes from generation to generation. Usually, these gene-passed behaviours are very difficult to combat. However, humans are the only species that specializes in this. For example: using contraception when having sex. Humans succeeded in manipulating natural laws!

Third, back to the original problem. I thought that maybe laziness is the information passed down genetically by our ancestors. Damn right, I seem to be passing on the "lazy gene" with a huge portion! Let's try to use animal glasses to make it easier to understand. Even though it is dangerous, taking it easy is difficult. But, this is one of our basic characteristics: like easy things.

If we are animals, what is easy is good. Lazing around, eating simply, marrying at will, and other easy things. The animal ideology is easyism. Why are we lazy to finish the thesis? Why are we lazy to do assignments? Because it's hard! Better to open the diagram, chat, have coffee and other easy things. Yes, the easier ones are always much more attractive. Because this is the information that the genes convey in our heads.

Animals tend to avoid difficult things. Unless there is no other choice. In other words: if avoided, it will not be able to survive. Cannot eat, drink, and have sex. But, can't sex stay alive? For animals, it is better to die than not to have sex! Just look at the male lion, willing to risk his life against other lions to fight over the female. Uh, it's not just lions, some humans are like that too.

Now, many humans do the same thing in laziness. We are so lazy to do something until there is no other choice! That's why so many of us are looking for work. Because working with other people leaves us with no other choice but to abandon laziness. If we are lazy, we can be scolded by our superiors, get our wages cut, and get fired! Deadline turns into a monster that we must face to survive.

For that reason, some of us are willing to work a minimum of eight hours per day! Look for bosses and deadlines outside of yourself. But if you think about it, if we were to do our hobby for eight hours a day, I believe you will be successful! Example: I like to write. If I wrote eight hours a day, how many pieces of work would I produce in a year? But writing is hard! Moreover, no "boss" figure creates a monster called deadline.

Again, behaviour that is informed by genes is very difficult to fight. However, that is not impossible. The special ability of humans is to manipulate natural laws. If we manage to manipulate deadline monsters like we manipulate sex with condoms, I think our chances of not being lazy and succeeding in life are higher. Being your boss and making monster deadlines yourself seems like a weakness of laziness.
