Are you a result oriented person or one who can enjoy the process?

“You have to enjoy the process!”

What does this statement mean to you? If you are one of those who cannot relax before finishing a book, or who cannot take a deep breath before reaching their destination when they go on a journey; It means that you are one of the "result" lovers. It has become your life purpose to create a long to-do list and tick off the things you do on the list.

At this point, I would like to mention a point that you may or may not realize yet, that these lists are never complete. New items to be made are added all the time, and since all this never ends, we can enjoy neither the result nor the process. My aim is not to make a start like a disaster scenario and demoralize, on the contrary, I want to talk about the harms of this issue, since I am one of those results-oriented people.

“Let it pass as soon as possible.” Does this sentence sound familiar? Let's think about it: What happens when it's over and done? When I questioned this for myself, I got the following answer: It's over, I'm relieved when it's over. And then? Then a new one comes and I make a new effort to finish it. This is how life goes, but I don't want to go there! In the whole process, I realize that I actually only get satisfaction once: When I'm done. Whether it's a 10-unit job or a 100-unit job, it's only one time, that is, being satisfied when the job is done, isn't it a pity for all this effort?

My agenda right now has been to shift my focus to the process of doing business rather than finishing the work I've been dealing with. Of course, we cannot find time to focus on the process in every job done professionally; sometimes it is necessary to be fast, complete work and answer e-mails as a duty. The important point I mentioned is whether we act with the same sense of duty in the works we do for ourselves, to turn our attention to this. Consuming the food we eat without enjoying it, reading the book we are reading not for the purpose of learning but to pass the pages can be an example of this situation. Or let's say you are trying to lose weight; including not seeing progress before reaching target weight, not appreciating your effort.

“You are not there yet.” What the thought makes you feel is that you are inadequate. I see that I don't appreciate myself in the process. Why? Because the job isn't over yet. However, I started a way, I started! I know how hard it is sometimes just to get started. I have not only started, I am progressing, I am getting closer to the result day by day by taking steps. You can't jump from 0 to 1 all at once! Time passes, effort is spent, that's for sure.

Changing perspective is never easy. At the point where I am now, I say; not just the moment I finish; Every moment that is precious, that I make an effort, needs to be seen. This self-awareness makes me feel incredibly good. I hope what you read will be a light for those who want to change their point of view in this direction.
