Education is Business

So my kid is 3.6 years old now and we are thinking of putting her in some good school which has some outdoor activities, with good infrastructure and some good track record. The problem is out here in Bangalore every other school is just sitting there and selling seats in the name of school admissions. There are good schools which are asking for quite a good amount in donations and then the fees are quite high too.

Every other school is asking for around 50K to 100K INR (650 to 1300 USD) as an admission fee and around 100K INR as the tuition fee for the whole year excluding the transport and uniform. This is the fee structure of every other school in Bangalore. If we try to get a school with fewer fees then we will only get the school building and now infrastructure.

Now in the name of infrastructure, they are providing various courses along with academics like dancing, swimming, singing, sports and whatnot. And because of maintaining all these, they are charging such high fees. Now the problem is the kid who does not want to actually take only one out of all these have to suffer too when they have to pay such a huge amount.

The problem is the parents are falling for the prestige that my child is studying in such a great school and whatnot. That's what happens with me too, I want my child to study in a normal school with an average infrastructure and then if she needs any other extracurriculars then we can provide her with dancing, swimming and other things, but my wife thinks differently. She wants her to put in some good name school and thus get that infrastructure.

Now the problem is every other person we know is actually suggesting the same as her because it is a matter of pride. But the academics will be the same in both the places where you will learn just like other kids whether you are going to some good name school or some average school. So yeah education is becoming business and thus we are falling for it. In today's world the name matters, like anywhere if you go and tell that you have studied from here is actually a prestigious matter because you are getting that name.

The problem is small kids are also being asked to pay such a huge amount even though they will not be doing any activities and other things. All the activities will start from Grade 1 so the kids who are small are just paying without taking advantage of anything. And who all are the sufferer, the parents like us who are actually want to give proper education to their kids even though it put a big hole in our pocket.
