Have you seen those very tiny pockets on jeans? Have you ever wondered what they are for?
They're too small to fit anything useful. People have wondered about the tiny pocket's purpose.
They called it coin pocket -for slipping coins into.
They called it the ticket pocket- for keeping the ticket safe.
Many call it the finger pocket-you can slip in those fidgety fingers when thwy are feeling bored or awkward (it is not a rule or anything but its probably best to put in your own finger and not somebody else's).
But here is the real purpose of those tiny pockets, don't be surprise! They're for storing pocket watches!
Jeans hit the markets in the 1800s, back when pocket watches were very common. Those tiny pockets were originally intended as a safe place for men to store their pocket watches.
Back in those days, tiny pockets were so commonly used for their intended purpose that they were called watch pockets, because they were made to keep pocket watches.
These days, you hardly seen people who carry around or using pocket watches, so the watch pocket is more for fashion than anything else.
