Russian Sleep Experiment or also known as Orange Soda. It is an experiment involving 5 persons locked up in a facility in Russia in the 1940s.
The test subjects were all prisoners from different jails. In these experiments, the test subjects were locked up in a small room with a thick mirror which divided the test subjects and the researchers. The room was sealed and no air, the only available was supplied by the researchers through an air vent had chemicals, chemicals that made the test subjects unable to sleep. At that time, there is still no CCTV, and the only way of communication is through a glass window and a microphone.
In this experiment, researchers made a deal to the test subjects that if they were able to finish the experiment, they will be free from imprisonment. The main goal of this experiment is not to sleep for 30 days.
The first 5 days of the test subjects were normal. They were talking about how their life was when they are still free from imprisonment. But all these talks were dark and traumatic. After 5 days, test subjects stop talking with each other and just sit in the corner, curled up. Researchers noticed that there were signs of frightening in the test subjects. They were mumbling and their eyes were open wide.
After nine days, one of the test subjects starts to act crazy, shouting for hours, to the extent that his vocal cords were ripped. Even though his vocal cords were ripped, he did not stop shouting. He keeps acting crazy and shouts until there is no voice coming out from his mouth.
Researchers noticed that the other 4 test subjects had no reactions to what is happening. They were not bothered by it and sits in the corner, mumbling.
After one of the researchers made his report, he fell asleep in his chair. When he woke up, he was surprised that the mirror which serves as a divider from them and the test subjects were covered with pages of books, pasted with poops. He noticed that it is quiet, no noise can be heard from the room, no one is mumbling or shouting. They thought that their microphone was damaged so they tried to replaced it. But still, there is no noise coming from the room. Because the room was sealed, they just let it pass knowing that the test subjects won't be able to escape from the room.
Few days had passed but still, no noise can be heard from the room. So they now checked the oxygen consumption of the subjects and it is continually used, which means the test subjects were still alive and breathing.
After, one of the researchers come up with an idea, on how to make the test subjects move from their room. They told the test subjects that the experiment is finished and they will let them go out of the room. But they were shocked when one of the test subjects said in a husky and dreadful voice, " We do not want to go out, leave us alone." The researchers began to debate because they had no visual or voice response from the test subjects besides the one subject who speaks. After hours of debating, they have decided to open the door and remove the air that contains chemicals. From that time, four voices were heard, desperately begging not to remove the air with chemicals.
After the air from the room was flashed out, guards were told to go inside the room. When they entered the room, stinking and rotten smells were all over the room, and they suddenly heard the test subjects shouting, acting crazy, afraid to see other people from the room. They also noticed the rations of food were not even touched.
On one corner of the room, they saw the drainage clogged with internal organs of one of the prisoners who were found dead. His internal organs were scattered and his mouth was open as if he is gasping for air.
And because of the clogged drainage, the room became a pool of mixed poop, blood, and internal organs of humans.
The other 4 test subjects skins were wounded, turned and some of its bone was exposed. Based on their observation, the prisoners used their fingernails to scratch or pinch their skin until it can easily be torn. They also notice that each of the prisoner's intestines was exposed. But the vital organs like the heart, lungs are still intact. Despite their condition, they are still alive. What was shocking was that one of the prisoners is eating its flesh and internal organs.
The guards who were assigned to remove the test subjects from the room were shocked by what they had witnessed inside the room. Taking out the subjects became a big problem. Prisoners became vicious and violent. One of the guards was attack when he tried to take out one of the prisoners, his throat was ripped off using only his hands. While the other guard was attacked on his private parts. While this was happening, the test subjects were shouting, desperately asking to return the air with chemicals. One of the test subjects was immediately taken out from the room but they need to inject 10x of sleeping pills for it to calm down. While injecting the medicine, the test subject keeps on saying, "inject more, more, it is not enough."
The three test subjects remain in the room and still begging for the air with chemicals.
Days had passed, the other test subjects had to undergo an operation, while the doctors take them, they were laughing, like demon laugh(just imagine how that demon laughing sounds like), at the same time, they were asking for the air filled with chemicals. One of the doctors had an opportunity to ask one of the prisoners why he needs that air, the prisoner replied, " I need to stay awake, just like you said."
Later on, the three test subjects died, only one remains. While outside, the remaining test subjects told the doctors to put him back in the room, or else, something bad will happen. And because they have only one test subject, afraid that their research will be put to waste, they move the subject back to the room. But this time, they make sure that the bed was well equipped for a long time of observations.
Based on their data and analysis, the cause of death of the three test subjects was the absence of air filled with chemicals. So they need to immediately move the teat subject back to the room. While researchers were preparing for the test subjects' bed, the prisoner's vitals sign suddenly went flat. Their commander quickly ordered to close the door. The three doctors were still inside together with the test subject. The two researchers run towards the door but they did not succeed. One of the researchers, looked at the mirror where he can see the commander standing, looking at them. Then he suddenly takes out his gun and shot the commander right through his head.
The room was slowly filled with air. The researcher suddenly points his gun to the test subject, while saying, "I don't want to get locked up in this room with you, who are you, what are you, I must know, I must know?!"
The test subject smiled and said, "Have you forgotten so easily?, We are you, We are the madness that lurks within you all. Begging to be free that every minute of your deepest animal mind. We are what you hide from your beds every night. We are what you sedate in silence when you go to the nocturnal heaven where we cannot threaten."
The researcher paused for seconds, then he suddenly points the gun at the head of the patient and pulls the trigger.
"So nearly free."
