Kulam or Barang are terms used for a kind of black magic, specifically a malevolent use of sympathetic magic, which is associated with Indigenous Philippine religions ...

Here in Capiz most people still believes in kulam or witchcraft. We even have quack doctors or "magtatawas". People who do not have enough money bring their sick relatives to magtatawas or quack doctor instead in hospitals. And those who have become victim of kulam or witchcraft is also treated by quack doctors.

Kulam, quack doctors and the likes is a part of our culture. So even we are already in a techie world, some still believes in it.

Unfortunately the word "Witch" or "Witchcraft" have bad connotation with most people in the Philippines particular of those living in remote areas. There is good witch and there is also bad witch.

"Kulam" or "Barang" was like of treating sick people not to harm people.

Having bad connotation in witchcraft is somehow media's fault,i guess. Because of the movies showing witcraft as devil's artwork. But then again, as you have said, there is a good witch and a bad witch. I remember the movie 'hansel and grethel' because of this.
