Christmas is indeed in the air! We can feel the cold breeze that reminds us that Christmas is just around the corner. And even here in read.cash, most of the articles written nowadays was all about Christmas.
This time, I'll be writing not about Christmas itself, but about a movie. Although it's theme is about Christmas. This is one of my favorite movie. I first watched it back in 2010, and watched it many times over.
The movie is called " A Christmas Carol"
It was a 2009 American 3D computer-animated Christmas dark fantasy movie. It is based on a book written by Charles Dicken in 1843.
This movie is about an old grumpy miser named Ebenezer Scrooge. Everyone knew Mr. Scrooge, but not because he was popular and certainly not because he was generous. Ebenezer Scrooge made his fortune in banking, partnering with his friend Jacob Marley, who was just as stingy as Scrooge. There was nothing those two like more than money. Their hearts were as hard and cold as the gold coins that tangled in their pockets. When Mr. Marley passed away, all that's left with Mr. Scrooge was his assistant Bob Cratchit who was kind and timid young man.
The plot of the movie happened at Christmas eve. When Mr. Scrooge does not share the merriment of Christmas. He declines invitations from his nephew. He also rejects two gentleman's offer to collect money for charity. And he did not allow his loyal assistant to go home early to spend Christmas with his family.
On that Christmas eve, Scrooge was visited by four ghost. First was his deceased partner Mr. Marley who told him to repent his wicked ways or he will be condemned like he was in the afterlife.
Next was a candle-like ghost of Christmas past. It takes him to his childhood and early adult life. He relives his lonely childhood in boarding school and his sister Fan. And how he became successful and engaged to a beautiful woman named Belle. But when Belle left Scrooge he became obsessed with wealth. And then the ghost of the Christmas past take him back to the present.
Next, Scrooge was visited by the merry ghost of Christmas Present, who showed him the joy and wonder of Christmas day. The ghost bring Scrooge to the house of his assistant Bob Cratchit. He learned that Bob's family is content with their small dinner. Then he saw Bob's ill son Tiny Tim. Scrooge starts to takes pity on Tim when the ghost abruptly said that Tim will likely not survive until next Christmas. The ghost warns Scrooge about the evils of "ignorance" and "wants". Right there ,he was taken back to present.
Finally, the ghost of Christmas Yet to come arrived appearing as a dark shadow, and takes Scrooge into the future. He witnessed a group of businessmen discussing the death of an unnamed colleague, saying they would only attend the funeral if lunch is provided. After being chased across London by the Ghost, Scrooge recognizes his chairwoman Mrs. Dilber selling the stolen possessions of the deceased. Shortly afterwards, Scrooge sees the aforementioned colleague's body on a bed, followed by a vision of a family who is relieved that he is dead, as they have more time to pay off their debt. The spirit transports Scrooge to Bob's residence, discovering that Tiny Tim has died. Scrooge is then escorted to a cemetery, where the Ghost points out his own grave, revealing Scrooge as the man who died. Realizing the consequences upon his actions, Scrooge decides to change his ways just as the Ghost forces him to fall into his empty coffin lying in a deep grave that sits above the fires of Hell.
And then he wakes up in his room. He is so happy that it was all a dream(or was it?). His housemaids was so shock seeing him dancing and singing and they think that he lost his mind. Then he heard a kid selling a turkey outside his house, he called the kid and told him to bring a turkey, a big turkey to his assistant Bob Cratchit. He also went to his nephew's house Fred for a Christmas dinner where he is warmly welcomed. The next morning, he surprise his assistant Bob a raise and help Tiny Tim to get well from his illness and became a father figure to him.
A changed man, Scrooge now treats everyone with kindness, generosity and compassion; he now embodies the spirit of Christmas.
My favorite part of this movie was when the ghost of Christmas Present takes him to Bob's house. When he saw the family crying because Tim might not survive. I really cried on that part. And also when Scrooge wakes up as a change man.
This movie reminds as that money cannot buy happiness. No matter how wealthy you are, you will always need someone, either a family or friend to be with you. You will always want to be loved and someone to spend the rest of your life with.
