So you just bought/built your brand new PC. What to do next? Time to play some games and experience the glory of playing on a brand new PC! So you plugged in your PC, pushed the power button, and your system booted up real fast! NICE! But then suddenly, you realized that you've spent all your money on your PC and forgot to save up for some games to buy.

Luckily, there are some ways to get games for free, and I'm not talking about sacrificing your dignity and become a pirate. I'm talking about getting games for free, LEGALLY! There are digital distribution platforms for videogames that sometimes give out games for free.

Just to make things clear, I am not exploiting something here. These are promotions that companies use to gain more and more patrons.

Here are some that I use:

Steam

Arguably the biggest and most well-known digital distribution platform there is. Steam has around 23,000 games to offer! AAA games, indie games, you name it, they probably have it. What's even better is, from time to time, they give out games for free. You don't even have to install the game, just get it for free, and it'll forever be in your steam library! They even have actual free games to offer, some are even big! To name a few are, Dota 2, Counter-Strike: Global Offense, Team Fortress 2, and recently, they've also added Apex Legends and Spellbreak. They'll also have their biggest sale soon, so watch out for games with super low prices.

Here are some games I got for free from Steam:

  • The Awesome Adventure of Captain Spirit

  • DiRT Rally

  • HITMAN

  • Manual Samuel - Anniversary Edition

  • Tomb Raider

  • Total War: Shogun

  • Estranged: The Departure

  • F1 2015

  • Homefront

  • Injustice: Gods Among Us Ultimate Edition

  • Insurgency

  • Layers of Fear

Epic Games Store

This one is awesome. Fairly new, the Epic Games Store is continuously rising up and becoming Steam's rival. They may not have the vast numbers of games to offer like Steam. But there is one key factor that's been helping them gain more and more patrons. That is the fact that they give out free to keep games WEEKLY! Sure they may not be always some big AAA games, but free is free! And as even bigger and more awesome news, they will be giving out free games EVERY DAY starting from December 17, 2020, to January 1, 2021! We don't know what games they'll be giving out yet because they're all listed out as "mystery game" for now, but there are some speculations that some of them are really big games like Hitman 2 and Elder Scrolls Online. There's only one way to find out for sure though. You know what to do.

Again, you don't have to instantly install the games you get for free it'll forever be in your library. I'm not gonna lie, almost every game in my Epic Games Store Library are just Free To Keep games.

Here are some games I got for free from Epic Games Store:

  • A Total War Saga: Troy

  • ABZU

  • Alan Wake

  • Amnesia: The Dark Ascent

  • Amnesia: A Machine for Pigs

  • ARK: Survival Evolved

  • Batman: Arkham Asylum

  • Batman: Arkham City

  • Barman: Arkham Knight

  • Borderlands 2

  • Borderlands: The Pre-sequel

  • Enter the Gungeon

  • Football Manager 2020

  • GTA V

  • HITMAN

  • Just Cause 4

  • Layers of Fear 2

  • Overcooked

  • Remnant: From the Ashes

  • RollerCoaster Tycoon 3: Complete Edition

  • Sid Meier's Civilization VI

  • The Wolf Among Us

  • Totally Reliable Delivery Service

  • Watch Dogs

  • Watch Dogs 2

  • World War Z

Honorable Mentions

Ubisoft also has a distribution platform called "Ubisoft Connect"

Games I got from Ubisoft Connect for free:

  • Assassin's Creed 2

  • Assassin's Creed 4 Black Flag

  • Rayman Legends

There are also some websites that give out games for free from time to time, one I always go to is The Humble Bundle Store. They offer a lot of games, and most of the times they are on a sale, what's even better is, you help give out charity since Humble Bundle gives out a portion of their earnings to charity. They even offer bundles of videogames, software, and ebooks for a really low price. How low? A dollar. That's right! You can get a bundle of games and more, for just a dollar! And the higher you pay for, the more you get! Now they are not a distribution platform, so most of the time they'll just give you a code to be redeemed on Steam. Just use the code to redeem the game and it will be added to your Steam Library.

Games I got from Humble Bundle:

  • For Honor (Steam Version)

  • Guns of Icarus Alliance (Steam Version)

  • Spec Ops: The Line (Steam Version)

  • Grid 2

  • Metro 2033

  • The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings Enhanced Edition

There are also YouTube Channels that upload videos and announce free games that you can get and where and how to get them. One channel I follow is CultOfMush.

With that, I hope you can get the games you want for free, or at least at a lower price. Thank you for your time reading this article, I hope it was helpful.

Remember to always keep your cool! Cheers!
