The XXI century writes an important chapter in the history of money, revolutionizing with investment instruments that increase increasing their activity and others that barely see the light. Nations have had an advance in instruments generating profitability, in the search for greater economic development or other objectives, require strategies which allows the creation of new financial forms to achieve it; this is the case of Sovereign Wealth Funds, which aim to generate profits with investments in the foreign market generally, this has been one of the instruments where nations take part of their wealth, in the ranking are Norway, China, Hong Kong and United Arab Emirates. Norway's SWF has been the number one, it has grown steadily, with a profitability of 9%.
However, the most important chapter so far is centered on the birth of cryptocurrencies, which digitized and decentralized part of finance, and not only that, but their benefit has made them an instrument of interest for a few nations so far. One of these cryptocurrencies, Bitcoin, has maintained a position in the ranking and countries such as Bulgaria, Ukraine, Finland, Georgia and El Salvador hold significant amounts.
We find that SWFs have already passed, so to speak, social and political approval, which so far has not happened to Bitcoin and continues to be controversial, as examples, the legalization in El Salvador and the IMF warning to El Salvador of serious risks, or the possible package of regularization laws by the US Government following investigations to some Bitcoin exchanges.
Finally new or those with increased activity, governments will study them in their economic growth strategies, either for true profitability or perhaps as part of a political chess, SWFs have shown great benefit do you think cryptocurrencies will make it, and if so how long will it take for nations to get real benefits from them?
