Family over all?

A family is that fundamental base of support, that refuge where we go when we are bad. Or at least that is the romantic opinion of the family.

To what extent should we put up with some people because we share blood ties with them? What to do when our fathers and mothers sabotage us instead of helping us? Do we have to put up with being disrespected, isn't respect supposed to go both ways?

Those who walk away from their parents, siblings or other family members should not be judged. At least until you putting yourself in their shoes.

Everyone has a path to follow, and sometimes the best thing is to put distance between that family that touched us, to be able to choose one for ourselves.

It is a reality that not everybody have supporting and kind relatives. In fact, many suffers from phsycollogical and physics abuses in their "homes".

It sounds cruel, but sometimes distance is the best way to continue being a united and loving family. In this way everyone has the ability to live their life as they wish. Unfortunately, due to the economic reality of many, they do not have the capacity to form their own home.

Concluding thoughts

I believe that family is not an eternal bond just because we share the same blood. As in love, a place in the family must be earned day by day, with respect, support and reciprocity.

There are many types of families, and some of the most united and loving are those that are formed by decision and not by blood ties.

And you? What kind of family you have? What is a family for you?
