Maximalism VS Freedom

Should there be only one? One crypto, to rule them all?

That's the idea behind maximalistic philosophy.

On the other side, there's freedom.

A change in perspective

The blockchain is not just a data structure. It is a replicator in the Dawkins' Selfish Gene sense. It can also be seen as a creature living in the world of 0s and 1s. The blockchain is a genome and the addresses in it are the genes. Saying "there should be only one blockchain" is like saying "there should be only one species". Who are we to judge? Why should it be only Homo Sapiens? Why not Proteus Anguinus?

I know doctor Metcalfe wants maximalism. His law states that the value of a communications network is proportional to the square of node count in the network.

Applying to crypto it means that 1 blockchain is worth twice as much as this same blockchain split into two. Imagine then, how much is lost when there are thousands of blockchains in the wild.

That's the greedy approach. But think about it - in the world of cryptos we, humans, are Gods. We created them and they serve us. Although in a way we serve them too - helping them replicate. I find it fascinating that there exists a whole ecosystem of thriving blockchains. Keep an eye on our creations.

Nothing is lost. It's just divided into many different block chains. The sum is equal. Maximalism is bad. It's a monopoly. Choice is freedom.

In any case, I'll be following freedom. One should not obey everything by denying other things but for one. Recipe is freedom of choice and open minds.
