Attempting to use different sorts of values to moderate humanity's discussions with itself, is a jail of our own making.
How do we work towards ending sexism, racism, xenophobia, homophobia, economic inequality and so on ... without breaking eggshells? How do we break free people caught in religious cults just because they were born into families and countries of a certain cult/organised religion? How do we move the power base from people being treated as children to a position were we govern ourselves? How do we break down national borders so the human family can once again join together, possibly the first time since we walked out of Africa thousands of years back. The first step towards this outcome one may conclude is the free interchanging of challenging ideas.
If people are too scared to have their opinions, values tested, why would this be. Could it be because they realise how weak their opinions are?
The choice we all have is to be selfish and sacrifice our wider family by remaining within our echo chambers. Or we pull our own lives apart, piece by piece, and put those pieces, one by one, up for testing. Those pieces that fail up, we then set out on a path of discovery so to make them stronger.
