JUST DO IT! Because You Can!

Years back, I watched a TV program and a popular celebrity was being interviewed. Evidently, she had taken it upon herself to initiate a charitable work to help some poor unfortunate people somewhere in the world. The interviewer asked her a question but first prefaced the question by saying that it was really the duty and responsibility of the government to help those people.  After all, they are citizens of that country. The question was: Why are you helping them?

In other words:

* You don’t even live there.

* You don’t know these people.

* Why should you care?

* Why should you help them?

I’ll put her response back to the interviewer in my own words.  BECAUSE I CAN!!

It’s true that Jesus said “The poor ye have always with you.”  As long as there is selfishness and greed and oppression in the world, ending or eliminating poverty may not be possible.  But that doesn’t mean that the poor have to ALWAYS suffer.

I never did the math but I’ll wager that for every greedy selfish ruthless and unkind person in the world who hoards their wealth and lacks human compassion, there’s another one wealthy individual who is a philanthropist and a humanitarian.

Charity never fails.

You don’t even have to be rich to be charitable. You don’t always have to give money. Your acts of kindness can be random. But they don’t have to be random. They could be (and should be) carefully thought out, well planned, … intentional and purposeful.

If an opportunity presents itself and you have it within your power to help a poor soul, JUST DO IT!

Why? Because you can!
