Apocalyptic film, a genre that I personally like a lot for special effects, the first element that distinguishes a good film of this theme from a bad film. And if the plot is also compelling, then the film acquires considerable interest and attention. However, unlike the other catastrophic giants, The Midnight Sky does not tell much about the spectacular aspect of the catastrophe, in this case of biological rather than climatic origin, but the plot focuses more on the psychological aspect of the scientist who remains on the planet to monitor the progression and the consequences of biological attack.
Only one scientist surviving in the ice in Antarctica attempts the latest feat: to warn the spacecraft Aether, returning from a two-year mission from a Jupiter satellite, suitable for life, not to re-enter and to backtrack to the new world. The film then narrates two initially separate strands that eventually join with an unexpected outcome. The story of the scientist who faces his fears, his ghosts, completely alone in a hostile environment both for the freezing temperatures outside the laboratory in which he is segregated, and for the effects of loneliness and the awareness that in the end he will have to sacrifice in the name of a crew, including the daughter he never knew.
The adrenaline rhythm and the hasty events hide a message of resistance and hope, towards a new possible dawn of a rising sun and lighting up the sky at midnight, in fact. A spacecraft that becomes an ark to cross the space between the stars and between men and start again elsewhere.
The film was produced by Netflix and finally begins to have a higher quality of content, a more elaborate plot, never predictable, and not at all trivial. George Clooney demonstrates all his prowess by playing a role where he belongs and really expresses all the intensity of him. The film is not made up of particular long dialogues but there are many scenes of silence, in which the viewer asks himself some truly existential and reflective questions.
The graphic effects are important but they are not the main element of the movie which instead develops a very educational story. The scenography and photography are incredible, much of the film is concentrated in two environments, very detailed and captivating, albeit in a sterile environment such as a laboratory and a spaceship. The soundtrack is adequate for the film, slow music, at times distressing, but it is perfectly in line with the storyline. I prefer to listen to the soundtracks separately from the film, so that I can concentrate exclusively on the music but if it manages to convey emotions already while watching, success is undoubted.
I recommend watching it exclusively for adults because it is a slow film but full of emotions. Those who expect incessant rhythms are invited not to view it 😎

Un solo scienziato sopravvissuto tra i ghiacci in Antartide tenta l'ultima impresa: avvisare la navicella spaziale Aether, di ritorno da una missione di due anni da un satellite di Giove, adatto alla vita, di non rientrate e di fare marcia indietro verso il nuovo mondo. Il film quindi narra due filoni inzialmente separati e che alla fine si congiungeranno con un esito imprevisto. La storia dello scienziato che affronta le sue paure, i suoi fantasmi, completamente solo in un ambiente ostile sia per le temperature glaciali all'esterno del laboratorio in cui è segregato, sia per gli effetti della solitudine e della consapevolezza che alla fine di tutto si dovrà sacrificare in nome di un equipaggio, tra cui vi è la figlia che non ha mai conosciuto.
Il ritmo adrenalinico e gli accadimenti precipitosi nascondono un messaggio di resistenza e di speranza, verso una nuova alba possibile di un sole che sorge e illumina il cielo a mezzanotte, appunto. Una navicella che diventa un'arca per attraversare lo spazio tra le stelle e tra gli uomini e ricominciare altrove.
Il film è stato prodotto da Netflix e finalmente s'inizia ad avere una maggiore qualità dei contenuti, una trama più elaborata, mai scontata, e per nulla banale. George Clooney dimostra tutta la sua bravura recitando in un ruolo in cui gli appartiene ed esprime davvero tutta la sua intensità. Il film non è costituito da particolari lunghi dialoghi ma vi sono molte scene di silenzio, in cui lo spettatore si pone alcune domande davvero esistenziale e riflessive.
Gli effetti grafici sono importanti ma non sono l'elemento principale del movie che invece sviluppa una storia molto educativa. La scenografia e la fotografia sono incredibili, gran parte del film si concentra in due ambienti, molto dettagliati e accattivante, seppur in un ambiente sterile quale può essere un laboratorio ed una navicella spaziale. La colonna sonora è adeguata al film, musica lenta, a volte angosciante, ma è perfettamente in linea con la storyline. Io preferisco ascoltare le colonne sonore separatamente dal film, in modo da poter concentrarmi esclusivamente sulla musica ma se la riesce a trasmettere emozioni già durante la visione, è indubbio il successo.
Consiglio la visione esclusivamente agli adulti perché è un film lento ma denso di emozioni. Chi si aspetta ritmi incessanti, è invitato a non visionarlo 😎
