Space travel becomes reality

Blue Origin, the aerospace company founded by Jeff Bezos, the CEO of Amazon, has launched the New Shepard spacecraft into orbit for a short space travel, with 4 passengers inside: Jeff Bezos himself, his brother Mark, the 82-year-old ex pilot Wally Funk and 18-year-old Oliver Daemen, who have become respectively the oldest and youngest person in space. The spacecraft took passengers to a height of 100 km, reaching the line between the earth's atmosphere and space, with a travel speed of almost 4,000 kilometers per hour.

The crew was suspended for 3 minutes, enjoying the wonder of gravity, doing somersaults and throwing balls. Then the return trip that gently accompanied him to the ground, all as per the established program. A success for Bezos' company but above all for humans, the next decades will see space travel as a tourist destination or a research opportunity. It therefore seems that the science fiction films we have seen on TV over the course of these decades may actually be precursors of what will happen fifty years from now, when traveling from one planet to another or reaching space bases will be routine. .

The imaginative hypothesis of abandoning our planet in search of another wife is still very remote, at the moment there are no ideal planets to be able to live as well as on Earth but the idea of ​​being able to live in space can launch new space travel in search of solar systems similar to ours. It is truly a great success that Blu Origin has achieved but it is not the only private aerospace agency that is studying space travel. Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic made a similar journey to New Shepard a few days ago, not reaching the same height of 100 km, stopping instead at about 80 km, but announced that the first space flights will be ready as early as next year and the plane can accommodate a maximum of 6 passengers. So far 600 tickets have already been sold! When fully operational, Virgini Galactic will carry out up to 400 flights per year. The ticket price is definitely not affordable for everyone, we are talking about hundreds of thousands of euros.

Even Elon Musk's company, SpaceX, has space travel plans, even longer and more distant from Earth, there is even talk of a trip of a few days in space and the cost of the ticket is to owe millions of dollars. In the next few days, SpaceX will also make a test trip, thus starting a race between the various agencies to grab the customers who seem really willing to spend any amount for a flight of a few hours in space. The competition will accelerate the times for space flights and already by the end of this decade, space travel can no longer be considered a dream but a solid reality. Prices will still be inaccessible to many, but technology is like this: at the beginning it is for a few and in the future it will be for many. Would you like a nice trip to space or are you afraid of heights? I admit that I would be a little scared but if I could buy a ticket, I would do it without thinking twice.

La navicella ha portato i passeggeri ad un'altezza di 100 km, raggiungendo la linea tra atmosfera terreste e lo spazio, con una velocità di viaggio di quasi 4 mila chilometri orari.

L'equipaggio è rimasto per 3 minuti in sospeso, godendo della meraviglia della forza di gravità, facendo capriole e lanciandosi palline. Poi il viaggio di ritorno che lo ha accompagnati delicatamente a terra, tutto come da programma stabilito. Un successo per la compagnia di Bezos ma soprattutto per l'uomo, i prossimi decenni vedranno il viaggio spaziale come una meta turistica o un'opportunità di ricerca. Sembra quindi che i film di fantascienza che abbiamo visto in TV nel corso di questi decenni possano essere in realtà dei precursori di ciò che avverrà da qui a cinquant'anni, quando viaggiare da un pianeta ad un altro o raggiungere le basi spaziali sarà una routine.

L'ipotesi fantasiosa di abbandonare il nostro pianeta in cerca di un altro moglie resta ancora molto remota, al momento non vi sono pianeti ideali per poter vivere così come sulla Terra ma l'idea di poter vivere nello spazio potrà lanciare nuovi viaggi spaziali alla ricerca di sistema solari simili al nostro. È davvero un grande successo quello raggiunto da Blu Origin ma non è l'unica agenzia privata aerospaziale che sta studiando i viaggi nello spazio. Virgin Galactic di Richard Branson ha qualche giorno fa effettuato un viaggio simile a quello di New Shepard, non raggiungendo la stessa altezza di 100 km, fermandosi invece a circa 80 km, ma ha annunciato che i primi voli spaziali saranno pronti già dal prossimo anno e l'aereo potrà ospitare un massimo di 6 passeggeri. Finora sono stati già venduti 600 biglietti! A regime Virgini Galactic effettuerà fino a 400 voli annui. Il prezzo del biglietto non è decisamente alla portata di tutti, si parla di centinaia di migliaia di euro.

Anche l'azienda di Elon Musk, la SpaceX, ha in orog viaggi spaziali, ancora più lunghi e distanti dalla Terra, si parla addirittura di un viaggio di qualche giorno nello spazio ed il costo del biglietto è di doversi milioni di dollari. Nei prossimi giorni anche la SpaceX effettuerà un viaggio di prova, avviando così una gara tra le varie agenzie per accaparrarsi la clientela che sembra davvero disposta a spendere qualsiasi cifra per un volo di poche ore nello spazio. La competizione accelererà i tempi per i voli nello spazio e già entro la fine di questo decennio, il viaggio nello spazio potrà essere considerato non più un sogno ma una solida realtà. I prezzi saranno ancora inaccessibili per molti ma la tecnologia è così: all'inizio è per pochi e in futuro sarà per molti. A voi piacerebbe un bel viaggio nello spazio oppure avete paura dell'altezza? Io ammetto che sarei un po' intimorito ma se potessi comprare un biglietto, lo farei senza pensarci due volte.
