I'm sure you all know David Bowie, one of the most influential songwriters and musicians of the last century, but perhaps not everyone knows Davide Bowie as an actor in some very successful films, including Labirinth, a cult science fiction film from 1986 in which he plays the role of the evil Jareth, the Goblin King, who resides in the center of a labyrinth full of dangers.
The film's soundtrack includes five songs by David Bowie: Magic Dance (also called Dance Magic), Chilly Down, As the World Falls Down, Within You, and the single made for the film, Underground.
There are a lot of memories related to this film. I remember well that I used to watch it with my brother, it is he who introduced me to the film, being he is older than me, and I was only 6 years old when I saw the film for the first time. I love fantasy films especially from the 80s: although they have reduced special effects, they manage to convey what a child is looking for: action and magic. Labyrinth transmits a lot of magic and a great desire to stay small, especially if an adult like me is watching it today, having lived through adolescence in the 1980s.
The beauty of the film lies above all in the costumes and make-up: the golblins and the numerous fantasy characters that appear in the film required many hours of work by the staff and the result was truly excellent. David Bowie himself was beautifully made up although he is somewhat reminiscent of the star he was in the real world of music.
The film has clear references to the wizard of Oz and Alice in Wonderland and mixes the styles of the two films in an impeccable way: the labyrinth is very reminiscent of Alice's, as well as many of the characters. The scenography and photography, on the other hand, recalls the Wizard of Oz. The film is produced by Lucas Film, the same film company that made Indiana Jones and Star Wars, indicating the enormous potential of the film and the great organizational machine behind it.
If for some reason you missed watching the film, I really suggest you also see it with family or friends. If you are a fan of the fantasy genre, Labyrinth is a piece of 1980s film history, a launch period for current science fiction films, although I honestly can't find a fantasy film worth comparing to cult films like this.

Sono certo che tutti conoscete David Bowie, cantautore e musicista tra i più influenti dello scorso secolo, ma forse non tutti conoscete Davide Bowie come attore in alcuni film di grande successo, tra cui Labirinth.un film cult di fantascienza del 1986 in cui interpreta il ruolo del malvagio Jareth, il re dei Goblin, che risiede al centro di un labirinto denso di pericoli.
La colonna sonora del film include cinque canzoni di David Bowie: Magic Dance (chiamata anche Dance Magic), Chilly Down, As the World Falls Down, Within You, e il singolo realizzato per il film, Underground.
Sono molto i ricordi legati a questo film. Ricordo bene che ero solito guardarlo con mio fratello, è lui che mi ha fatto conoscere il film, essendo lui più grande di me, ed io avevo solo 6 anni quando ho visto il film per la prima volta. Io adoro i film fantasy soprattutto degli anni 80: sebbene abbiano effetti speciali ridotti, riescono a trasmettere ciò che un bambino cerca: azione e magia. Labyrinth trasmette tanta magia e tanta voglia di restare piccoli, soprattutto se a guardarlo è un adulto come me, oggi, avendo vissuto l'adolescenza proprio negli anni 80.
La bellezza del film sta soprattutto nei costumi e nel trucco: i golblin ed i numerosi personaggi fantasy che appaiono nel film hanno richiesto moltissime ore di lavoro da parte dello staff ed il risultato è stato davvero eccellente. Lo stesso David Bowie è stato magnificamente truccato sebbene ricordi un po' la star che è stato nel reale mondo musicale.
Il film ha chiari riferimenti al mago di Oz e Alice nel paese delle meraviglie e mischia in modo impeccabile gli stili dei due film: il labirinto infatti ricorda moltissimo quello di Alice, così come molti dei personaggi. Le scenografie e la fotografia invece ricorda il mago di Oz. Il film è prodotto dalla Lucas Film, la stessa casa cinematografica che ha realizzato Indiana Jones e Star Wars, indice dell'enorme potenziale del film e della grande macchina organizzativa che vi è dietro.
Se per qualche motivo vi siete persi la visione del film, vi suggerisco davvero di vederlo anche assieme alla famigliari o agli amici. Se siete appassionati del genere fantasy, Labyrinth è un pezzo di storia della cinematografia anni 80, un periodo di lancio per gli attuali film di fantascienza, sebbene onestamente non riesco a trovare un film fantasy degno di essere paragonato a film cult come questo
