Today I present to you my favorite prog rock band, Dream Theater, will probably be known to some of you, especially if you are a lover of the rock metal genre. The band was formed in the late 80s, the two pillars are guitarist John Petrucci and drummer Mike Portnoy, to whom bassist John Myung immediately joins. The musicians have known each other since the time of the music school and show a certain virtuism and mastery of instruments.
In the first official album When Dream and Day Unite, the musicians are accompanied by the voice of singer Charlie Dominici, a good album in which the skill of the musicians is manifested in the song Ytse Jam, minus that of the singer who is later replaced by James Labrie, still immovable.
The second album Images and Words represents the gateway to the world of success and Dream Theater became one of the most renowned bands in the progressive metal sector in the 90s, success they still retain today, becoming a cornerstone of the world musical panorama. Keyboardist Jordan Rudess became official in 1999 with the album Metropolis Part 2: Scene From A Memory, after a few years of research.
In 2015 Mike Mangini takes over from Mike Portnoy, due to misunderstandings or different points of view that have unfortunately caused the removal of one of the souls of the band.
The musical maturity of the band matures with the passing of the years and the albums, in search of a more refined and less raw sound than in the early beginnings. The search for harmonies that alternate with powerful riffs that occasionally recall the origins of the American band.
I got to see the band here in Italy in 2008 and I can't describe the emotion I felt seeing them live. Their energy reached all the fans who were there to see and hear them! I hope that this period will pass very soon and I hope that Dream Theater will return to Italy soon.

Oggi vi presento la mia band prog rock preferita, i Dream Theater, probabilmente conosceranno alcuni di voi, soprattutto se siete amanti del genere rock metal. La band si è formata alla fine degli anni '80, i due pilastri sono il chitarrista John Petrucci e il batterista Mike Portnoy, a cui si unisce subito il bassista John Myung. I musicisti si conoscono sin dai tempi della scuola di musica e mostrano un certo virtuosismo e padronanza degli strumenti.
Nel primo album ufficiale When Dream and Day Unite, i musicisti sono accompagnati dalla voce del cantante Charlie Dominici, un buon album in cui la bravura dei musicisti si manifesta nel brano Ytse Jam, meno quella del cantante che viene poi sostituito di James Labrie, ancora inamovibile.
Il secondo album Images and Words rappresenta la porta d'accesso al mondo del successo ei Dream Theater sono diventati una delle band più rinomate nel settore del progressive metal negli anni '90, successi che conservano ancora oggi, diventando una pietra miliare del panorama musicale mondiale. Il tastierista Jordan Rudess è diventato ufficiale nel 1999 con l'album Metropolis Part 2: Scene From A Memory, dopo alcuni anni di ricerca.
Nel 2015 Mike Mangini subentra a Mike Portnoy, a causa di incomprensioni o punti di vista diversi che hanno purtroppo causato la rimozione di una delle anime della band.
La maturità musicale della band matura con il passare degli anni e degli album, alla ricerca di un sound più raffinato e meno crudo rispetto ai primi esordi. La ricerca di armonie che si alternano a potenti riff che ogni tanto richiamano le origini della band americana.
Ho visto la band qui in Italia nel 2008 e non riesco a descrivere l'emozione che ho provato nel vederli dal vivo. La loro energia ha raggiunto tutti i fan che erano lì per vederli e ascoltarli! Spero che questo periodo passi molto presto e spero che i Dream Theater tornino presto in Italia.
