The 3rd beach of Glyfada is a nice, relatively long (about 800m), sandy beach. During the weekends it can get quite crowded it here (even in 2020) as it is one of the first ‘nice’ beaches close to the city center of Athens.
This beach is, by car, only 17km away from Athens (Syntagma square). Next to the beach, on the right side (facing towards the sea), there is very big, free, (unguarded) parking spot. Be happy, it is safe to park here.
The Star Beach is also approachable by taking the tram line from the Syntagma square (the main square of Athens) towards ‘Voula’ . The stop is called ‘Παραλία Γλυφάδας’ (Glyfada Beach). In this way, you will reach the beach in about 45 minutes.
For the more ‘sportive’ people among us, this beach is also, in a safe way, approachable by bicycle.
Because of its shallow waters, this beach is very suitable for families with smaller children. There is also a small playground, on the beach, so that the children do something in case they got bored of the sea. The playground is fenced so that when they to totally go up in their game, not accidentally run towards the tram/street.
If you come relatively early in the noon you will not need to take your own umbrella as you will find that the beach is equipped with ‘free’ umbrellas. First comes, first served!
If you didn’t make, be happy there are also some trees to find some shelter.
(This year the umbrellas are placed taking in account the COVID-19 regulations.)
Except for showers and dressing cabins, this beach has no other accommodations to offer. I noticed that the beach bar, that used be here, didn’t open yet. (as of June 2020). If things change I will let you know.
The beach is guarded by a team of life-guards until 19:00 in the evening.
The municipality of Glyfada did a great job here.
On the left side of the beach (facing towards the sea), you will find the ‘Sea Turtle Rescue Center’.
