Greece - Around Athens – Anavyssos – Beaches: Naftiko Omilo 1.

'Ναυτικό όμιλο 1' or 'nautical club 1' beach in Anavyssos (Ανάβυσσος) is one of the 'hidden gems' I wrote about before. It is a very nice, though very small, sandy beach. The atmosphere is very relax: You will make very easily friends here as most of the time you will find the same (local) people. It is one of my favorite beaches here around Athens.

The place is better known, by the locals, as 'Μαύρο Λιθάρι' which means 'Black Rock'. It is about 39 km. away from the city center of Athens (Syntagma square) and is very easy approachable as it is directly next to the main road, Sounio Avenue (Λεωφόρου Αθηνών-Σουνίου), that connects Athens with Sounio (the most southern tip of Attica). Next to this road you will always find a safe way to park your car.

Just step down the stairs you see on the picture below to find this amazing place. The stairs write 'ΝΟΜΛ' which stands for 'Ναυτικό όμιλο Μαύρο Λιθάρι' which means 'Nautical Club Black Rock'.

I believe this is one of the cleanest places to swim, so close to Athens. If you know that the direct neighbor of this beach (on the right side, facing towards the sea) is the Greek Research Center For Marine Science (HCMR) then you know what I mean.

Regarding accommodation, this beach is (as of July 2020) very limited. Except for some (free) umbrellas and a dressing cabin it has nothing else to offer.

I don't care too much about this because I know the beach and the sea are very clean here and there are not too much people neither (mainly locals, especially during the week). Ideal to keep 'social distancing', now in 'COVID-19' times.

There are some shops from the nearby village of Saronida that deliver coffee, snacks or pizza on the beach. Examples are 'Joy's & Pro' (+302291061010) or 'Sueltos Café Bar Restaurant' (+302291061331).

The waters are very shallow and the texture of the beach is very nice, soft and sandy. Ideal for families with smaller children. Children also love the small pier this beach has as they can jump in and out the sea all day long.
