'Παραλία Λουτρά' or 'Loutra Beach' is a small sandy beach in the village of Alimos (Άλιμος) about 12 km. out of the city center of Athens (Syntagma square).
The easiest way to get here, by car, is over Paleo Faliro (Παλαιό Φάληρο). Just follow Siggrou Avenue (from the center of Athens) and keep driving on the right lane. The interchange to Poseidonos Avenue (the road where this beach is located) happens automatically.
Take into account that there are very little parking spots here. Most probably you will have to go opposite the big avenue and find a place in the neighborhood (which is already very crowded).
So a more recommended way to come here is by taking the tram line (number 5) from the Syntagma square (the main square of Athens) towards 'Voula' (Βούλα). The station is called Loutra (Λουτρά). Hence the name of the beach. Taking this line will guide you here in about 45 minutes.
For the more 'sportive' people among us, this beach is also, in a safe way, approachable by bicycle. I will link, in a few days, the following article: Around Athens - Biking: Thissio - Athens Riviera.
Because Loutra beach has very shallow waters and its sand is of a very soft texture, I recommend this place, for sure, to families with smaller children. It is also one of the very first beaches where experienced 'COVID-19' awareness with social distancing!
Regarding accommodation this beach scores (as of July 2020) quite well. It has (nearly) everything you need for a relaxing afternoon near the sea. You will find showers and dressing cabins:
If you are sensitive to the sun, it is recommended that you bring an umbrella and some sunscreen (as this beach is facing directly to the south). A few umbrellas are (freely) available but not enough to serve everyone. There are NO trees to find some shelter. So keep it safe!
The municipality of Alimos invested also (since last year already) in the installation of a 'Seatrac'. This device allows people with a disability (or elderly people) to enter the sea in an easy way. It looks like a small roller coaster that transports the guest into the water. Thumbs up!
For those of you who can't be glued in the sand all day and want their blood to circulate a little faster, in the back of the beach you have the opportunity to play beach tennis and beach volley.
Another plus point of this beach is that the 'Nautical Club of Alimos' (Ναυτικός Όμιλος) is housed here. That means that you will find in the total back of the beach a small canteen where you can sit or take away your refreshing 'frappé' (Greek iced coffee) or a small snack. Easy, that is the way we like it here in Greece ;-)
