'Παραλία Αλθέας' or 'Altheas Beach' is a very small, yet cosy, sandy beach in the small village of Agios Dimitrios, about 29 km. away from the city center of Athens (Syntagma square).
This place is easy approachable as it is directly next to the main road, Sounio Avenue (Λεωφόρου Αθηνών-Σουνίου), that connects Athens with Sounio (the most southern tip of Attica).
It has a small parking, right above the beach, which has room for about 30 - 40 cars. If you don't find a spot here, be happy, you can always park your car next to the main road.
From the back of the parking follow the path on your right hand side which will lead you, by means of some steps, to the beach.
During the week this beach is mainly visited by the locals from the village above: Agios Dimitrios (Αγιος Δημήτριος). But in the weekend, people from all over Attica come here as the sea here is beloved because of its crystal clear waters!
The beach (as of July 2020) has attracted already a lot of people. In my opinion too much people! But hey, I was also there. I am not sure you can practice 'Social Distancing' and keep 'COVID-19' regulations here.
I found a relaxing spot, close to the water. As you can see on the picture below, the beach has very shallow, calm waters (nearly no waves throughout the entire day). The sand is very nice and soft. This combination makes this beach ideal for families with smaller children.
Altheas Beach has no accommodation to offer at all. So there are no showers, no umbrellas, no dressing cabins, no life guards, no ... nothing, just pure nature! If there is anything you might need (drink, food, bed or umbrella) make sure take it all with you! Also if your sensitive to the sun, the only place you will find some shade (and only after 16:00) is totally in the back of the beach, next to the cliff.
