What is a GALA node?
A GALA node helps to secure the Gala Games network, which is a decentralized gaming platform. The 50,000 nodes (of which circa 26,000 have already been sold) will work together to support and maintain the GALA network.
As a node operator you will be supporting the vision to let gamers truly own their gameplay and gamepath.
In exchange for your services as a node operator, you will earn both the crypto currency - GALA, and also NFTs (non fungible tokens) for the games that are on the GALA platform. Moreover, you will be able to vote on key decisions on the platform, such as games allowed on the platform.
How do I purchase a node?
1.Create a Gala account here.
2.Register your details.
3.Create a password for your account (please ensure this is as varied and unique as possible).
4.Create a transfer code for your account (this should NOT be the same as the password above).
5. Set up 2 factor authentication (highly highly recommended).
6.Note down the 12 word password for your account. DO NOT under any circumstances EVER reveal this to anyone. Ensure it is saved in a secret place. Preferably offline!
7. Transfer either GALA, ETH, or BAT to your GALA wallet. You can use any of these crypto currencies to purchase the node. I would suggest that you transfer some additional ETH to cover the gas fees of the node purchase.
8. Go to the Nodes tab and click Get Node.
9. Click Buy Node.
10. When the transaction is finished, you will receive an email.
You can go to your Account > Node Info and Download the Gala node software files for your computer.
11. Ensure that you keep your node online for 6 hours a day to receive your rewards.
12.Optionally you can run the node on a VPS. This will allow the node to run 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Watch out for the SCAMS
The crypto world is rife with scams right now and they have been on the rise at an alarming rate! Whilst writing the above steps on passwords etc, I was reminded of my absolute passionate hatred for scammers. So I wanted to point out the things you can do to protect yourself from these scumbags.
In addition to the standard safeguards such as creating strong passwords and regularly updating them, you should;
Enable 2 factor authentication where ever possible. For those who are unaware, this is a app on your phone (called google authenticator) that generates a 6 digit code every 30 seconds. If you link this to your GALA account, the account can only be accessed by inputting this code.
Ensure you do not store your passwords where they are prone to prying eyes, e.g on a cloud server, or on your desktop. I actually save all my passwords on a USB that is password protected and hidden somewhere in my house. You can go oldschool and physically hand write your passwords. Just make sure you do not lose the paper! The point I am trying to make here is; KEEP YOUR PASSWORDS AND SECRET KEYS IN A LOCATION ONLY YOU HAVE ACCESS TO!
Not give out your e-mail address or contact details (include phone number) all willingly. Or in other words only give them out if you truly trust the site. Your e-mail address and phone number are often a prime gateway to password resets etc. If your e-mail and password are comprised, EVERYTHING else could be too.
Not download every free app. There are a lot of free apps on the app store, but not all of them are legit. Scammers often create apps to steal personal information about you. Always check the reviews and be alert.
Be cautious of people impersonating others. Recently the GALA team announced that they were shutting down their telegram account as they were simply too many people impersonating them. They would pretend to be someone from the GALA games team and try and persuade their victim into handing over sensitive information such as passwords etc.
