The 800 Mass Grave: Children of Shame in Ireland

This is my article, or rather my understanding about an issue that I just learned in watching a documentary. This happened in Ireland, and is being talked throughout the years. This is a very sensitive issue to the people of Ireland, and to their government because it questions morality of the people and the state. It has a Youtube title “Children of Shame (Crime Documentary)”. I provided the link just in case you want to watch it yourself. Now, let me start telling my understanding about it.

Ireland has been following the laws and sayings of the church, wherein they depended on it. They symbolized purity as the Catholic church said, and their women are the symbol of it, their purity and virginity. They were seen as the people that should be protected and that marriage is sacred. They should get married before bearing a child or getting birth to a child.

But, there are women that seem to do things against the law of the church. And in solution to this, they built a home for them, also known as “Mother and Baby Homes”, where unmarried pregnant women are brought into. They will give birth to their children in that home with the guidance of the church, and most of the people in charge of guiding them are nuns.

These nuns are the people guiding them, and the children. But, are they really taking care of these people under their hands? Are they doing their best they can to protect these innocent children? Are they capable of taking care of them? Or are they the reason of these people’s insidious and fear? This was answered on the documentary itself.

There, a mass grave of 800 children were discovered and still being investigated. They knew that something was off on this home. Something not right is happening. It started with the interview to a man who is an illegitimate son. He experienced the cruelty in his own state where he heard a lot of harsh words. He experienced being bullied because they think he is from a sin.

There were investigations for this inhumane action of the church and the state, but they remained silent. They didn’t say a thing. They explained nothing. The identity of the children in the mass grave were being investigated too. They are trying their best to find the families of these children.

These children and named to be the children of shame because they are illegitimate children. They are the children of the unmarried women and so they are children of sin. Another information is that, the church is selling the children to foster families without the consent of their mother. They sell these children without asking the permission of the woman who gave birth to them. And, as the children are born, they are being taken away from their mother’s hands. And being taken care of the nuns. The children suffered from malnutrition because they cannot have the nutrients from their mother’s breast milk which they should be getting since they are born.

This controversial and sensitive social issue in Ireland is being talked and investigated by some groups and organizations that promote people’s rights, and protecting children. They are doing their best to get answers from this insidious past from their state. Even now, they are working so hard to gather more evidences and information about the said history. They are still working on gathering more witnesses and people who have some bomb they are keeping to protect the church and the people behind them. We should pray that these people and children who are the victims of the past could get the justice and be heard by the state. They deserve to have justice. They deserve to be heard. And they deserve to rest in peace, so people might as well pray for their souls too, specially for their justice.

================================

I really suggest this documentary to everyone, so you could see how lucky some of you are for having the opportunity to live your lives the way you wanted it to be. Have a blast! Live your life and never stop praying for other people's lives as well.

So people still did this even in this time and age. That's actually so inhumane and very infuriating. What if the mother was raped or it was still made out of love, what would they do then. Times have changed and their cupture should adapt to it

I don't know too. But, I feel sorry for those innocent children. They cannot see how amazing life is, because it was stolen from them. They can't feel how hugs. They just can't have the things that being alive has to offer.

I know, it's really sad and i hope that country changes their ways or try to ammend their chirch practices because it's like they're pushing their followers to sin for the sake of holiness

Absolutely. They have to change these toxic and inhumane insights about marriage. They should apply and follow the rules of God morally, without compromising any of those rules as well.

They don't get that is the problem though. I think anything that seems to bypass any of the literary scriptures is sin itself. Glad i grew up in a more open country like here ;;-;;

Yes yes, totally agree to that. We can say that our country is conservative too but is still open.

Yup and the church makes regular ammendments to their scope every now and then. Like how recently they've been more accepting of same sex vouples compared to before

Been shocked by the declaration of the vatican about the same sex marriage too. The Pope now seems like getting too much praise and support from LGBT Community across the world because of this.

It's well deserved though. They are people too and people in the lgbtq community are sometimes better people and more loyal to their partners than people who are straight. They're far more accepting too which is honestly something this world needs more of

Yes. And LGBT should not be cancelled. There are humans too, people, with feelings and with rights.

Interesting article, but change the flag. This is the flag of Hungary and not of Ireland.

Oh. My fault. I am really sorry. I searched the flag of Ireland in pixabay and they gave me this. I really stand corrected, I am sorry with that. I already deleted the image though. Thank you for checking it out.

Sad to say that there are those kind of people out there who have twisted understanding on our Lord's teachings. God rest the souls of those unfortunate children. For sure they now adore heaven as God's little angels. ❤

I started watching it but have to stop half-way, my heart is not just that strong enough to watch what those children has gone thru. The documentaries I watched are mostly about other countries' manmade creations and their wonders. 😍

I wonder why bearing a child outside marriage is a sin, but killing those children is okay. 🙁 Sometimes, this is what I don't like about religion. Some (not all) of their beliefs are cherry-picked and just based on their own rules. To the point that something are inhumane already. Though I am not judging any specific religion here, I just stated what I've observed and watched. 🙁🙁

RIP to those young souls..

That is exactly what I am sad about. They were called as church and follower of God, yet they killed innocent children. Maybe not by their bare hands, but they should have avoided these insidious acts by taking good care to these children. They needed to be taken care of well because they are still vulnerable and cannot stand on their own, literally and metaphorically speaking.

By the way, I really appreciate you sharing your thought about it and your own opinion to this inhumane actions of this so called followers of God. Have a blast dear!
