LimeWire Has Risen from the Dead as NFT Marketplace
Let's take a journey back in time. Join me, as we remember the good ole days when everyone at school was using LimeWire to pirate music.
LimeWire is Back!!!
That's right bois, LFG! LimeWire is back. If you were in middle/high school around the same time as me... LimeWire was hot. Like everyone was using it to pirate music and shit. I remember distinctly downloading an Avenged Sevenfold album on a 12kb/s high speed dial up connection. That was all we could get where I grew up in Louisiana, and that was the max speed we could get. Satellite internet wasn't really a thing yet so we had dial up for a really long time. I remember starting a download for 3 songs at a time and sitting there, watching them download. It seemed to take hours to do really anything but I was so cool because I was able to get the music for free. Obviously it was illegal and literally everyone has done it at some point so you know, come find me or whatever lol.
I'm having a bit of a nostalgia overload as I remember sitting at my cousin's house watching our music download while browsing MySpace. Chatting on AOL Instant Messenger was the coolest thing ever. Who remembers Yahoo Messenger? Hell I even remember using some copy of LimeWire called FrostWire. I don't really recall why I used FrostWire, but I think LimeWire had gotten shut down or something. Who knows. There was nothing more exciting than watching a song download at a screaming fast 1.2kb/s. Except for trying to load a youtube video. That shit took ages. Anyway - LimeWire was shut down due to numerous legal issues, imagine that. We thought it was dead and gone forever but some saints have come to revive it. LimeWire is back. It's an NFT marketplace now.
Yeah, you read that right. Our beloved music pirating software is now a platform where users can but and sell NFTs. Have a look for yourself on the new website. I highly encourage you to join the waitlist, you can do so at the link provided. Not only will you potentially get early access to the platform, but you'll also get an exclusive airdrop of 1 of 10,000 NFTs. I don't necessarily see myself using the platform much if at all... But I like free NFTs. So you might be in shock still, but stay with me. LimeWire is now an NFT marketplace. But wait... There's more!
What marketplace would be complete without its own token? LMWR token coming soon! Probably will be usable as payment for NFTs, maybe stakable, who knows. Staying true to LimeWire fashion though, the focus is music NFTs. I love the concept of music NFTs and I always encourage recording artists to make their songs into them. It can be a really cool collector's item or even unreleased music. This is also a shift to a more sound business model. Hosting pirated content is not exactly something that's ok in the government's eyes. Hosting digital assets is completely different. This gives power to the creators as well because they can distribute their music with no middleman taking a cut. Direct to consumer as assets issued on the blockchain. Which blockchain is the question, and I have yet to find an answer. I'd be willing to bet Polygon. They should consider Hive or WAX though...
