On this day 20 years ago, terrorist attacks took place in America that shocked America and the world. After hijacking four planes, Islamic terrorists attacked several targets in the United States on September 11, 2001, a terrorist act unheard of in modern history.
Two planes aimed at the twin towers of the World Trade Center in New York, one plane at the Pentagon building. The last plane was supposed to hit a destination in Washington D.C., probably the Capitol building or the White House, but crashed in Pennsylvania after passengers tried to take control.
The World Trade Center towers collapsed within two hours of the plane crash, killing 2,606 people, including 343 firefighters and 60 police officers. Another 125 people were killed in the attack on the Pentagon. All the people in all four planes were killed, a total of 265, including all 19 hijackers. In all, 2,996 people died. The victims were citizens of a total of 77 countries.
U.S. authorities accused the militant Islamist group Al-Qaeda of the attack, but their leader Osama bin Laden denied it a few days after the attack: "I emphasize that I did not carry out these attacks that appear to have been carried out by people who had their own motivation." .
However, US authorities claimed otherwise, and then-President George W. Bush commanded a war against the axis of evil, which included Al Qaeda, but also Iran, Iraq and Afghanistan. The attacks had huge consequences for world politics. They were convicted around the world, and about a month later the U.S. led a coalition of international forces in Afghanistan in search of al-Qaeda forces.
Three years later, Osma bin Laden accepted responsibility for the attacks, saying the motivation was "restoring freedom to our people", "punishing aggressors", and "inflicting economic damage on the United States". He stated that the long-term goal of his fight is to "bleed the United States to the point of bankruptcy".
This led to the fall of Taliban rule in Afghanistan but not to the destruction of the Al Qaeda terrorist network and the capture of Osama bin Laden.
The American Navy SEALs killed bin Laden after 1:00 a.m. on May 2, 2011 at his complex in Abottabad.
usa does far worse terrorist attacks to other countries you can read the 9/11 commission report: it is because usa has blown up millions of civilians around the world before this, the idea came from usa missiles blowing up apartment buildings in saudi aradia, iran andother places, 9/11 was just a small revenge for all the civilians, women and children killed by usa, and usa continues to kill innocent people all over the world with bombs...even after killing and destroying afghanistan, they bomb more innocent familes as they leave, lets be honest and fair
