It is difficult to find a person in the world today who has not even heard of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, Japanese cities where the only two atomic bombs were dropped in World War II. Because of this "black glory", another horrific event in the history of the conflict in the Pacific - the American March bombing of Tokyo - was completely overshadowed. And, if there ever was a "hell on earth", it opened then… on the night between March 9 and 10, 1945.
After the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, America sought in every way how to take revenge on Japan. The war was raging, the public was in shock, and the attack on Tokyo seemed like a logical counterattack. However, due to the distance of Japan from the nearest airport from which American bombers could take off, no one knew how to actually do it.
The solution was offered by Captain Francis Lowe and Lt. Col. James H. Doolittle, a well-known civil pilot and aeronautical engineer even before the war. Their plan foresaw that the attack would be carried out by bombers that would take off from the aircraft carrier. This happened for the first time when the so-called "Doolittle attack" was carried out on April 1, 1942, and Tokyo was bombed. Tactically, the action was a complete failure - all the bombers involved in the action were lost, and a significant number of pilots were killed or captured. However, when the news of the bombing of Tokyo reached America, there was mass euphoria. The whole nation celebrated, and Jimmy Doolittle was greeted as a national hero upon his return because - he proved that Japan is not untouchable. And so it began…
It was a turning point in the war for the Pacific. After him, the Americans bombed Japanese cities en masse, especially during 1945. Although Hiroshima and Nagasaki are best known for dropping atomic bombs, Tokyo actually bears the infamous title of the city that suffered the most, not only in World War II but in the history of warfare! American bombers flew at high altitudes where Japanese anti-aircraft artillery could not reach them. It was not particularly important that in that way the bombs were dropped inaccurately and that a large number of civilians and civilian objects were killed. And then the US Air Force came up with an even scarier idea…
The bombers are equipped with incendiary bombs that explode when they hit the ground, throwing hot gasoline in all directions and thus forming several smaller fires that merge into a large fire element. Residential buildings in Japan made almost entirely of wood had no chance… and neither did the people in them!
Hell on Earth!
The night bombing of Tokyo with incendiary cluster bombs on the night between March 9 and 10, 1945, is still considered by many to be a crime against humanity. A fire element was delivered to the city, which swallowed everything in front of it. The date was not chosen by chance - it was expected that the humidity would be low, the air dry and the wind would blow. Ninth. on March 10 the conditions were perfect! For more than three hours, American planes bombarded Tokyo.
41 square kilometers of space was burned, and the fire that spread like that did the rest. Witnesses later said that the air was so hot that people's clothes were burning. Oxygen completely disappeared, so that those who were not directly hit by the bombs suffocated. In the end, the numbers seemed unreal. Although the victims were never fully enumerated, it is estimated that over 100,000 people died in Tokyo in those three hours, although some historians state a figure of 200,000. Due to the condition of the body and the fact that the rivers took some corpses into the ocean, over 90 percent of the victims were never identified. About 1.5 million civilians were left homeless
These indicators make the bombing of Tokyo on March 9 and 10, 1045, the most deadly attack in the history of mankind! Given that it was a targeted killing by an artificially created fire element, it speaks volumes about the criminal intent of the U.S..None of the U.S. commanders who ordered the attack were ever held accountable for the mass Holocaust in a single night.
