Paraprosdokian. When you change the end of a familiar saying or proverb and come up with something unexpected, that is called paraprosdokian. This is a figure of speech or a creative writing style wherein something familiar is transformed into something unusual and, more often than not, surprising. For example, we are all familiar with, "Where there's a will, there's a way." This becomes a paraprosdokian if you say, "Where there's a will, then there's a death." Or "Where there's a will, I want to be in it." There are many paraprosdokians, and some can be quite amusing. It makes you reread the first part to properly understand the second part. For example, "You're never too old to learn something stupid," and a fave of mine by Stephen King since it's quite funny in a dark way, "I have the heart of a small boy -- in a glass jar on my desk." A physically strong person might have a better chance at surviving if the modern world merely required strength. Nowadays, however, we also need to possess determination and tenacity - quiet strengths that allow us to function in today's society. Being determined makes you grab a hold of things in life and not let go even if it becomes hard or painful. It's mental and emotional strength that gets you through many challenging times. It is that inner strength that pulls you up when everything is weighing you down. It's hope and perseverance in your darkest hours. It's strength of character that gets you through the day and aids you in making the right choices. Mung Beans and Sprouts. I like mung beans or monggo beans because there are many creative ways to use them in cooking. Plus, they contain protein and are packed with vitamins and minerals that could help in making the body healthy and strong. For me, I cook monggo beans but it takes a while to boil them. I prefer to let them sprout because I like the texture of the sprouts when stir fried, and they cook much faster too. To sprout, simply soak beans in water for half a day. Once you see that the beans have cracked open, drain the water and rinse 3-4 more times or until the water runs clear. Then drain. Keep in a dark container or a see-through plastic container will do. Just cover it with dark cloth because sunlight or bright light can encourage the leaves to grow much more quickly and more green, which can be bitter. The mung or monggo beans will sprout quickly. Just rinse it every 4 hours during the daytime. Rinse until the water runs clear. Drain properly. Then cover with dark cloth. You can leave it overnight but make sure to rinse it before you sleep and then once you wake up too because the beans could smell or dry out. Do the process until your desired length or growth of the sprout. For me, I prefer to grow it for about 2-3 days before using. Mung bean sprouts can be bitter, which is largely due to its roots. So it helps its taste a lot if you remove the roots one by one, which can be a tedious job but I still do it. Also, add ginger slices and a little sugar when stir-frying it with oyster sauce, soy sauce, and a hint of vinegar. I find that it makes the sprouts taste better. You can add all sorts of veggies to it, like cabbage and carrots too. 🌱❣️💮 #Foods

When we lose people we love, we never really stop missing them. There are times when we miss them with a small smile, but there are also times when we miss them so much that we can't help the tears that just fall down our cheeks. We cope with a loved one's death, but that doesn't mean that we're over the pain. Witcher. It was a Netflix suggestion that got me hooked. I like genres like this, plus Henry Cavill. I didn't check how many episodes there were, so I was surprised that I was actually done with the entire season 1 which only had 8 episodes. When the credits rolled, I was like, "Wait! Is that it? I have so many questions!" I like it when a series will get me very curious. I found myself doing some research, and I discovered that there's a Witcher game and a Witcher book series too. Anyway, I am very curious now and currently checking where I could get the books because I want to know more about Geralt of Rivia, Ciri, and Yennefer, among others. *PS ~ The books were written by Polish author, Andrzej Sapkowski. *PPS ~ The images are screenshots that I took while watching. *PPPS ~ Let me know what your thoughts are about the books. Are they worth reading? Because I read some comments that suggest that they're good up until Blood of Elves. Also, I have the entire Game of Thrones books and I only finished the first one. It's because I sometimes lose interest once I watch it. It's a good thing that I read the HP series before they were made into movies or else the same thing could've happened. #Netflix

I was finally able to call my Uncle today. He just lost his wife, my Auntie, a few days ago. They'd been together for more than 50 years. I couldn't call him right away yesterday when I heard that she finally succumbed to cancer. I didn't want to call him and cry. That would not be good - to be comforted instead of being the one to offer comfort. So this morning, I made the call. His gruff voice was easily recognizable even though it's been a while since we last saw or even talked to each other. I didn't know what to say, so I said the obvious, "We heard what happened. We're sorry." That opened up the conversation, and soon we were talking about anything. Then, I said in a wistful but teasing voice, "You won't have anyone to tease anymore." I heard him laugh. It sounded soft, sad, and he replied with a small sigh, "Yes." What you should know about my Uncle is that he is small in stature but his presence is commanding. That's why we nicknamed him "The General." My Aunt was smaller than him and was... dainty, like a delicate flower. My Uncle was gruff, but he always teased her in an endearing way, and it was fun to watch. I envied their relationship too because sometimes they sounded like kids bickering over the smallest things but you know and you feel that the love is there. This makes me sad. With the pandemic, we can't even go to their place to say our final goodbye. My heart aches as I write this. 😔🙏🌼 *I took this photo of a moss (or is it a fern?) Here's a throwback pic to one of our trips to Tokyo Disneyland (2019). We went into a shop that sold all sorts of glass figurines. They all looked so dainty and exquisite. Cinderella's castle was even made into a glass structure that stood on a rotating pedestal and enclosed in glass. For me, the real attraction was this guy. He was the glassblower on site. I can't remember how long I watched him, but it was mesmerizing to see someone create something out of a bit of molten sand and fire. I could've watched him the entire day, but we had to go line up for the rides. Oh how I miss traveling. It could be a bit stressful, but the experiences are all worth it. 🏰🌸 #Japan

Ah.... How should I feel today? Then today, I got news that my aunt also died of the same disease that took my Mama - cancer. Cancer is such a mean disease. It takes away a loved one so slowly whilst giving and then taking away hope before totally snatching all control from life. It lets you watch as your loved one withers away like some bloom that gradually loses all color. I feel for my cousins as I have been through it myself. RIP Auntie... you were in many of my earliest memories. May your soul find peace in God's arms. 🙏😔❤️🌼 #Feelings

Fittonia. This plant is also called "nerve plant" because of its colorful veins and leaves. Sometimes, the veins even gleam like neon lights when the sun hits it at just the right angle. The most common ways to propagate fittonias are through stem or leaf cuttings. But I have actually successfully propagated one through flower stalk. It was by accident that this happened. One of my fittonias was looking limp but it was growing a flower stalk. To conserve the energy of the plant, I decided to cut the flower stalk so that the weak plant could spend more energy on becoming more lush rather than having flowers. Because I felt a bit guilty about cutting the flower stalk, I just stuck it into soil together with my peperomia propagations. I expected nothing from it. But, after about 7 months, I saw a gleam of pink from underneath the peperomia leaves - and there it was! It takes a longer time though, to grow a fittonia via flower stalk. It's much faster via stem or leaf cuttings. As for the usual cuttings, place these on top of a pot of garden soil. Keep this pot in a well-lighted area but make sure that it will not be hit by direct sunlight as they could die. Keep it moist too. I only had 3 hours of sleep because my boi was sick. I don't know what caused it, but he had a bout of vomiting last night that began around 12 midnight. I had to monitor him and I only went to sleep once he ate his small portion of boiled chicken liver because he really had nothing in his stomach after vomiting everything that he ate. So that was 3 am. Then, he woke up at his usual time, which is 6am. Thankfully, he is better this morning which gave me relief. It was also lucky that he did not have diarrhea or other symptoms. For now, he is sleeping and was already playing earlier. He ate a little too. Yesterday, he was dewormed as per schedule. I called the vet to check if this was a side effect because he didn't get sick last time. The vet said it wasn't because a few hours had already passed after the deworming tablets were administered. Normally, side effects occur immediately or about an hour or so after any medicine is given. He suggested that I continue to monitor him because he could've eaten or chewed on something hard. If he doesn't pass stool today or if he vomits again, it might be an obstruction. But i think it isn't coz he already pooped last night. Ahhh.. i am rambling. I am sleepy but still have to cook lunch. If only I had a magic kitchen that cooked by itself or perhaps some helpful elves to help me out. 🐶🐾 #Petlover

As per my daughter's request, we tried the BTS meal which includes fries, a coke, and 10 pieces of chicken nuggets with two dips. The usual nuggets were made tastier with the the two dips - sweet chili sauce (Cajun sauce) and hot mustard. I prefer the chili sauce over the mustard-based one, which kinda tasted like a salad dressing to me. But both were okay. We enjoyed a little outdoor "picnic" while waiting at the car wash. One boi was excited and overjoyed with the fries and hotcake which we shared with him 😁 actually, we just came from the vet, and this mini outing was his reward for being such a good boi. As for the BTS hype, I'm not a fan but I do admire those boys. From humble beginnings, they've become international stars. I liked them because of Suga and his collab with IU for Eight. Then, there was Dynamite, which I also enjoy. For the fans, continue with what you love because God knows we need something to distract us from what's happening today. We all went through a stage in our lives wherein we got crazy over something. I was surprised to see chicos in the market today. I forgot that they're usually in season during summer months, which brought back memories of how we - me, my bros, cousins, and neighbors - often climbed the chico tree that was just across the street from my grandmother's house. The lot was once owned by a dentist and his wife, and we were free to take all the ripe chicos that we could carry or eat. Sadly, the tree was cut when the land changed owners. Today, a dorm stands on that lot, and our time under that tree seems like a very distant memory. What I love about the chico is its sweet taste. It's also juicy and the graininess of its flesh is somewhat similar to that of pears, but softer. Sometimes, if you get one that's just rightfully ripe, it could feel like biting into a brown sugar jelly. Chico is also known as naseberry or sapodilla. It's good for the health because it's rich in vitamins A and C, as well as antioxidants and other vitamins and minerals. ❣️ #HealthyLife

Possessed. I am currently watching this on Netflix. I'm on ep 11 with 5 more episodes to go, and i am already feeling very frustrated because the villain is just... too powerful and too evil. How evil the villain is can be somewhat understood in his backstory. But I am mighty confused about why he is so powerful (even more powerful than a dedicated shaman). How come he got superpowers when he was just a plain psycho at the start? Moreover, the victories of the good against the bad are too far in between. The actors, who play the bad guy, are really good though. You'll really want to squish them between a rock and a hard place. But the bad/evil scenes can be a bit too much. I mean, i like horror films. But it's a different thing when you're seeing something portraying an evil that has zero conscience and empathy. It's heavy on the mind and heart. Thankfully though, there is some comedic relief from the main characters' interactions, as well as the side characters. I get that they, the director and producers, want to build up the villain's momentum (?) so that it'll be very satisfying when he gets defeated. But... But... He is always a step ahead and too, too smart and way too powerful that it's getting very frustrating (and it's only ep11) 🤔🧐 i usually get like this at around ep 14-16. It's way too early in the kdrama to feel so choked with frustration is what I want to really say. Update: I finished the series while skipping several parts because I couldn't take the evil smug bully anymore. I'm sorry but if the villain is too powerful and the good guys too helpless, it's just like watching a powerful bully play with weak beings. My Rating: 6.5/10 ⭐⭐⭐ Main Cast: Eun Joo Kim Song Sae Byeok As much as I would like to give it a higher score because I liked the leads and the rest of the good guys, the villain was made to be indestructible. It left me feeling frustrated and hopeless. 😔

Gaslighting, defined loosely, is the act of manipulating a situation or a story to discredit a person. This is a form of emotional abuse that is hard to identify. To illustrate, when you remind a person about an agreement or a memory shared between you two and that person says, "No, I didn't say that" or "No, that didn't happen," this is most likely gaslighting. Sometimes, you really aren't aware that you're being gaslighted. Perhaps, it's only after a conversation when we think, "Did I remember it incorrectly? What's wrong with me?" You feel dazed, confused, and you doubt yourself and your ability to perceive your surroundings. That's the danger of gaslighting. It can be difficult for us to know that we're being subjected to it. But it does have a psychological impact, such as the emergence of self-doubt and insecurities. It can also affect our confidence and make us question our own credibility and reality. I've had my share of experiences related to this, and it is true that it can make you doubt yourself. Sometimes, I even think, "Should I record this conversation to have proof/evidence?" Blue Ternate is known by many names, such as Clitoria Ternatea, Asian Pigeonwings, and Butterfly Pea Plant. I like how this climbing plant adds a lovely sprinkling of delicate deep blue color in my garden because of its many flowers. But the best reason to have this around is that the flowers can be used to make healthy drinks via infusing either its dried or fresh flowers. You can then add flavorings, like sugar or honey, to your blue ternate beverage. The flowers can also be used as natural food coloring, which surprisingly lends an attractive lilac color to white rice. I took this photo using detachable macro lens and my Oppo fone. I hate to say it, but this boi is a picky eater. Among all my furbabies, he is the finicky one. I guess it's partly my fault because we sorta spoiled him at the get go. But recently, it has become harder to make him finish his food. So, I said to myself that this won't do. I have to train him, like his two big bros who finish their food quickly and cleanly. I began at breakfast today. As expected, he wouldn't eat his meal of kibble and rice. I used to mix chopped chicken liver, but he got bored with it. Then, I tried mixing some powdered milk to his food, which he liked at first. Now, he no longer eats his food with liver or milk, which is frustrating. So, I decided to get him to eat plain dog food with rice, which is what I usually feed my older dogs. It was a battle of wills, really. He would not eat his food this morning, as well as during lunch. It was worrying on my part. He isn't sick because he would eat bread and other food, except his own. He is surely being picky so I did not give him any treats or table food since this morning. I kept giving him the plain food. He snubbed it twice. It made me worry a lot. Thankfully, after his nap, he ate everything. I guess he was hungry enough to not be picky. 🐶🐾 #MyPets

Peperomia Ginny. I love the color of the foliage - white, green, and a touch of pink. It was very small when I got it, but it has grown a bit. I have even cut the top part as it was growing too tall for my taste. The cut part is now a healthy but separate plant. So, yes, the p. ginny can be readily propagated via cuttings. I've also read that like other succulents, you can also use leaves or leaf cuttings to propagate, but I've not tried these methods yet. This mother plant is growing in a shallow soil mixture while the cutting is doing well in a mostly pumice mix, together with my haworthia. I think the important thing to remember here is to use a well-draining soil mix because these plants do not like being moist all the time. Water only once the soil is completely dry to avoid overwatering and rot. 🌸🌿

What a lovely surprise! This boxwood shrub has been with me for years, and I've never seen it bloom even once. But here it is! What's more is that the flower's scent is like that of jasmine, but very faint. Don't you think it just looks so pure? The flower may be simple but it's quite elegant. Plus the leaves have turned shiny and deep green, which means it must like where it is now. #MyGarden

Ferns symbolize different things depending on which part of the world you're from. It could mean humility, eternal youth, or, in New Zealand, it means new beginnings which is what it means to me. As a fern unfurls, it seems to shyly say "Hello!" to a new world of endless possibilities. The Little Mermaid is one of Andersen's masterpieces that have been told and retold many, many times. Most kids today would think of Ariel as the original Little Mermaid. Actually, she was ever only called "Little Mermaid" in the old version of the story, and her ending was not as happy as that of Ariel. Disney is truly an expert in spinning old fairy tales that are filled with sadness and tragedy into cute shows with happy endings. Well, who isn't a sucker for happy endings, right? However, I think it's also character-building to actually watch shows or read stories that have open-ended or even sad endings because through those we relate and consider what could have been.

Euphorbia Dragon Bone (variegated). This is my variegated euphorbia, also known as spurge. I love its color - white with some slivers of green in some areas. Propagation is easy through cuttings. Use scissors or a sharp knife or cutter to cut the length desired. Allow the area to form a callous before planting. In other words, let it dry first. You'll see it form a brownish callous on the area where it was cut. You could also sprinkle some cinnamon powder on the cut area to quicken healing and avoid rot. The callous will form in about 2-3 days. Then plant in well-draining medium. Water 2-3 days after potting. I've trimmed this cactus a few times already and have planted some of the cut sections successfully. This is a beautiful plant to grow indoors too, but place in an area where it can get around 6-8 hours of light.

Spot the mealybug 🧐 I hate these bugs so much coz they were the reason why I lost so many of my succulents. They are so difficult to get rid of too. You can use sprays and such, but even if one survives, they'll surely be back. Some even infest the roots that's why so many of my once lush succies suddenly sort of withered away and died coz of root rot. #Smallinsectsphotos
