Distractions come in all forms, colors, sizes, and kind. In fact, anything that hinders us from doing what we are supposed to do is a distraction. The world tells us that we must focus on our responsibilities and to not be distracted by internal or external factors in order to perform our responsibilities well. We must always give our utmost best. But what if these responsibilities deplete not only our energy but also our soul? What about our joy? Peace? Contentment? How do we replenish what we lose each and every day? We recharge by amusing ourselves through things that distract us.
Some of the things that distract us could help in renewing our vim and vigor. These could be the very elements that give us life and hope. They propel us forward and give us strength to face another day filled with obstacles. If this is so, should we then classify responsibilities as the actual distractions that hinder us from being happy, peaceful, and content? I guess it's about creating a balance and knowing what the real distractions are in our lives.
To me, distractions are elements within us or around us that rob us of time well spent. It could be anything, from our pets and chores to our mindset and emotions. It could even be work. What happens around us and, most especially, within us could be a distraction if it stops us from being productive and happy. I specified the word "and" because if we are productive but not happy, then perhaps we should allow ourselves to be distracted by things that make us feel joy since to not feel happiness in what we do each day robs us of our accomplishments. For what good are accomplishments if these only leave us empty? Will success taste sweet without a joyful soul?
Perhaps it's best to allow distractions in life once in a while as these could be the very things that enliven us. The very elements that distract us give us the will to power on - to stand up and face the challenges ahead. Still, we must be mindful about what we allow to consume our precious time since there are also things that could lead to our downfall.
