Characteristics:
Also known as Cereus uruguayanus, this type of cactus is of columnar-growth, showing a range of ribs from 5 to 8, and multiple ramifications once they reach certain age. From the areolas grow the spines and also the flowers. The first one varies in quantity and one can find more usually 4 or 5. When growing in nature, the C. Peruvianus can reach a height of over 10 meters, but not so much if they grow in nursery.
Cares:
Preferable put in direct sunlight with the most light possible, even though they can still grow quite healthy in interiors given they are placed near a light source (like big windows). It can tolerate temperatures below 0°C. Soil must allow excess water to drain easily, and watering should be done frequently during summer. It is advisable to repot it once a year because roots may grow too much and no longer have space in the same pot. It is quite easily reproduced by cuttings (the most frequent form of reproduction) but it can also be grown from seeds (takes a long time).
Flowering:
They bloom at night during spring-summer. They only last a die. Most flowers are pure white but they can also show a little "pinkish" tone. They usually are of 15cm of diameter.
