Once again this week, our officers have been busy doing their utmost to tackle violent crime across the city.
In Croydon, officers executed a number of warrants at several shops suspected of illegally selling cannabis. Officers recovered almost £20,000 in cash, a large amount of cannabis, 63,000 nitrous oxide canisters, suspected ‘magic’ mushrooms, which is a class A drug, and drug paraphernalia. A Bitcoin ATM machine was also found in one of the shops. The machines are sometimes used as a method to launder money.
On Tuesday, officers from the Violence Suppression Unit (VSU) were on patrol in Roehampton when checks prompted them to stop a vehicle. Inside were two men who were searched, with one admitting to having a bag of cocaine tucked into his sock. When officers searched the vehicle, they found a backpack containing two blocks of suspected cocaine. Officers then searched a nearby property and discovered two large blocks of compressed white powder suspected to be cocaine weighing approximately 1.75kgs, along with a two litre tub of what is believed to be loose cannabis and approximately £22,000 in cash. Officers estimate the cocaine discovered to be worth £400,000.
In Hackney, officers conducted a set of early morning warrants in relation to a range of violent offences. A total of six men, aged between 14-24, were arrested on suspicion of a range of offences including attempted murder and possession of an offensive weapon. The warrants are the culmination of an investigation into a large fight involving knives and machetes, which took place on Broadway Market in Hackney last month.
#TacklingViolenceTogether remains our top priority and we are not complacent. Our officers continue to work around the clock to tackle crime and keep London safe.
