The world seems innovating with everything. Technology, modernization, and even education is improving too. They say that education is the key to success, is it?

Everything we see with our bare eyes are products of education or studied. It didn't came from nowhere, but rather someone studied and invented it. They invented things because they studied and learned how to do it. We have been trying to go with the flow of innovation in the world, even if it costs us adjustments and confusions. These adjustments has been made to improve us, and our lifestyles as well.

Education has been a broad idea to people which they look as a necessary factor to be with a person in able to meddle and come up with learnings. In this matter, governments and country leaders made sure that their country has the access to education, and that they have been improving through the years. An example of this improvement is the implementation of K-12 Program in the Philippines.

This program aims to give advance learnings to students and get them ready for the more complex years of studying. It added years such as Senior High School years to students so they can better decide what course they want to pursue in college. It is to have them ready. The Senior High School offers different specializations or also known as strands.

List of Strands:

  • Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM)

  • Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM)

  • Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS)

  • Technical Vocational

These are the strands that I, myself, been familiar with. And I am under Humanities and Social Sciences.

The strands mentioned above has different specializations as well and they are classified according to what course the student will pursue in college. Like for example, under Accountancy, Business and Management strand, the students who want to take BS Accountancy or any courses that concerns Business Management in college can enroll on this. While students who want to pursue Engineering, Chemistry, and other courses that are under Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics concerns. They can enroll to the strand STEM. On the other hand, Humanities and Social Sciences is for me, the better choice of strand. Why? There are a lot of opportunities and advantages in enrolling in to this strand.

Humanities and Social Sciences

  • This is for those who are considering taking up journalism, communication arts, liberal arts, education, and other social science-related courses in college.

  • Looking forward to becoming a teacher, a psychologist, a lawyer, a writer, a social worker, or a reporter someday.

  • This strand focuses on improving your communication skills.

  • This strand focuses on oral communication, media and information, and enhancing your reading and writing skills.

I, myself, is a student under the Humanities and Social Sciences and we are taught to become artists, to think logically, to think critically, and to look beyond what we see. We are taught to see the world with more understanding and deeper meanings. We are taught to be the individuals that sees and are aware of everything. We are taught to have an open mind with everything and accept diversifying perceptions and opinions. This strand will help you get to know more about yourself and how well you understand life, arts, science, and even socialization. This is being human. This strand will teach you to be a man and not just human beings. This will give you a better and broader understanding about what you see, hear, touch, and feel.

Aside from these, there are advantages in taking it and opportunities as well. Take a look for the job description that you may get under Humanities and Social Sciences. And the courses under this strand.
